Forgive me if this is a school boy question...

I'm looking to buy an Eleven Rack that comes with Pro Tools LE. Can anybody advise me what this version of PT is like? Should I pay extra and my full PT? I don't want to be restricted with a lesser version.

it will restrict you(the LE version)that being said you might make a better use of your money buying something other than the full PT

If it has less plugins then it may be a false economy if I have to buy extra plugins in the future.

I'm sure the LE version is absolutely bang on for what I need now, but I want to be future proof. I don't want to be restricted when I am earning millions as a engineer

use reaper for now , its free, there is much help around these forums since I and so many use it, reaper accepts just about anything from an outside source, I think that there is going to be some good stuff coming out soon , so I would get used recording/ train your ear and see what the market brings out

PT LE has a lower track count and some other bits I believe. There is a full comparison of current releases on their web site. Carson has a good point on Reaper. It's ubiquitous. Assuming your 11 rack will work with it of course. Anyone running an 11 rack and reaper? Don't see why it shouldn't work though

PT as a DAW is not better than Reaper - it's just different.

What PTHD does offer is a chance to achieve tight integration with accel etc based hardware. That hardware is a good pro standard for recording and mixing and certainly much better than a lot of the prosumer stuff. So if you wanted to upgrade to pro hardware PTHD is one way to do it.

I cannot help with this, I'm on the other side with Nuendo and Cubase t-shirts. I'm very happy and comfortable with Steinberg's software.
