I've seen you make some really great improvement just since you started bootcamp Soldier! Go back and look at MISSION1 then look at your most recent mission. Surely you can tell a difference in the confidence of your playing, the sheer ability, the solid technique? Give it a look and please do let me know. I can see it plain as day soldier!!
As for transfering to soloing, this is CRUCIAL. After all, the whole point of all this is to prep you for "PLAYING LIKE A GOD" We will get to that in BOOTCAMP and we will spend a LOT of time on it!! There are wads of lessons where you HAVE to play the bits against a backing and make them work. This is just down the road a bit in terms of where you are. Don't get frustrated, its' coming!! You are working up to it so that you'll be ready when you get there.
About this one drill that's causing you problems, I"ll give you the sage advice that I was given when I hit similar snags. PUT THAT DARN THING AWAY !!!!!! Just put it aside, stop thinking about it, stop judging yourself based on one little lesson. Move to something else and come back to it later. Beating yourself up about it will not help you play any better. Trust me on this, I know.
Take a deep breath Soldier. Keep your pace and keep moving up in Bootcamp and we will get to the SOLO missions. The lessons are designed to prepare you for it. So give yourself a break, you are doing well! Just keep at it
If you want some SOLO Practice now before we get there, try the QUICK LICKS as they are all tied to a BACKING TRACK!! You can use 2, 3 and 4 all in one solo if you like. It's the Brit Metal Backing that we used in Quick Licks 2 and 3 so it should be familiar!
P.S. I looked at that picking drill from Darius and it doesn't look like its' meant to be played "fast". He's doing it at about 120 BPM and it's complex, with lots of pinky stretches. This drill is about precision and finger placement. Not speed. If you can play it at 120, you win. Any faster would be pointless and 120 would be a huge victory. But like I said, PUT THIS AWAY for now and come back when you have some more AMMO in your GUN so to speak. Get a few more missions under your belt, work on soloing with backings from youtube. Play and ENJOY playing! Stop killing yourself. This is supposed to be fun!
Sarge
Hey Sarge, I'm having some trouble getting this lesson down
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Altern...king-Workout-5/The frustrating part is that I had learnt this lesson way back in August 2016 - see my take at 120BPM then -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGXrtvf2SvE.
I still struggle to play it perfectly at 120BPM, as you can see in my rec take last week -
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...mp;#entry753657I'm sad to see that I really haven't improved much, maybe a little more precise, since then
You had told me to change my right hand wrist technique, that's the only major improvement I've had I guess.
And this lesson is like a broken record stuck in my head, I'm just sick of it! The speed I have in these scales does not transfer over to general soloing/scale improvisations. So it feels like my practice goes to waste.
How do I go past this, and make the max use of limited practice time I get? It feels like my fingers are made of molten plastic or something!
