I mentioned that I was sort of in the same place (hate everything I play, don't want to practice, etc.). I also mentioned that it's common for musicians to feel that way regardless of their level and that I'll force myself out of it by working on something different and outside of what I usually do.

This time I tried to learn some African guitar music (Angola, 70s) without using a pick. After about 4 days of messing with some of it and blending it with my own thing, it's turned into this ...



Regardless of whether or not that particular jam becomes a piece of music doesn't matter to me. Mission accomplished. I don't hate guitar anymore. *For now

Yeah!! What a cool piece of music.

And your strategy to get our of the rut is exactly what I like to use.

I even try to be proactive in order to avoid that feeling - so I will attempt to play new styles on a regular basis.

I've heard a LOT of guitar music in my time and I've got to say that's probably the most original sounding thing I've ever heard. It's not just one thing. It's a HUGE amount of things synthesized in to a cogent bit of music. I'd call it a keeper and put it out on your next release

OK, so I guess it's a keeper.

Which just goes to show you that sometimes even the player/artist/creator isn't always so cognizant of what will resonate with others. I didn't think much of that when I was doing it. For me it was just process and catharsis. As well as here, I got a lot of positive response for it on my FB page and I thank everyone for that. It's a reminder that sometimes you can be too close to something to accurately view what that something actually is and how you're doing.
