For those of you stuck using windows movie maker, I wanted to suggest DAVINCI. It's free. It's very powerful and it works on Macintosh and Windows. it won't run on a 10 year old machine, but if you have a machine built in the last 4 or 5 years, it should be fine. it's also got all the bits from LIGHTWAVE which got bought by these folks. It's the most flexible and powerful system out there and it's free for the basic version. Can't beat that.

Anyone using it? I"m going to try it for a project I'm working on with a guy from Germany. We are going to use drop box as our cloud storage.

Sounds interesting. Can you have two videos running next to each other in it, like for cover videos with multiple instruments?

Thanks for sharing Todd,

I've been looking for an alternative to MM for a while but they're all to expensive for my needs and/or too complicated.

Cheers

Yes, good alternatve Todd.

I tried DaVinci for several weeks but my PC was not strong enough ...

I ended up finding a less rich alternative but also very good and free. This is HitFilm Express (a pro version also exists but not free): https://fxhome.com/hitfilm-express

But still prefer the choice of Todd if your PC is good.

Sure smile.gif It supports layers and multi camera. There are tons of vids on youtube with tutorials.

This one can be complicated, but if you stay on the edit screen it's just an editor. If you wander off to the other screens, it gets complicated. It's 6 programs in one. The editor is where you edit video. smile.gif

Good call! That is a very fine alternative and it's free!!! Anyone if you find DAVINCI is to slow on your computer, follow the link below and try HITFILM. IT's a great tool and much better than movie maker. It's as good as any editor and it's free and requires very little power.

Well I've installed it, it looks a bit complex but there are help vids so I'll slowly learn to use it. I don't want it to take too much time.

Here is my speed test result. It doesn't mean anything to me though.

You have a CUDA video accellerator!!!! NICE!!! I don't have one. It will make everything faster. The DAVINCI engine is designed to make use of it for real time stuff. NICE!!! Also, those number a amazing. Thats for 8k footage. You won't need that much. UNless you get an 8k camera smile.gif Bottom line your rig is a monster and more than fast enough.

They are mostly from GERMANY so I'm the "American" smile.gif We are going to try to use DAVINCI As our main editor. We are using DROP BOX as our cloud. We have never tried this before so I will let you know how it goes!!!

Gonna try it out! Thanks, Todd!

There is a small issue with it. It wouldn't show any mp4 files straight from my webcam but it would show the ones I'd saved from Movie Maker.

Here is the fix if anyone has it, you need to watch the bit about the audio too.

Looking at these numbers again, your machine is a BEAST. This is a benchmark for uncompressed 8k Footage. The highest resolution, highest data of it's kind. It's what they use to shoot Hollywood Films like the MARVEL super hero movies. Your laptop is a MONSTER you chose well smile.gif
