Hi and welcome to my latest lesson, which centres on the palm muted picking of Al Di Meola
Di Meola is a master of alternate picking, his blistering 3 note per string runs and use of Harmonic Minor scales influencing the world of guitar playing immeasurably.
What is particularly unique about Al's style is that he was one of the first players to use considerable amounts of plam muting to achieve his percussive, thumping tone. This is achieved by allowing the inside of your hand to brush against the strings whilst you pick, deadening the strings prematurely and taking away some of the high frequencies of the tone.
This lesson not only introduces you to picking whilst using palm muting, it also increases your aptitude at using 3 note per string shapes and serves as an excellent warm up too!
Get ready to give that pick a workout!
