  • Hi and welcome to a Paul Gilbert based lesson!

"Paul Brandon Gilbert (born November 6, 1966 in Illinois, U.S.) is an American musician, best known as the guitarist for Racer X and Mr. Big, as well as many solo albums and numerous collaborations and guest appearances with other musicians." - Wikipedia

Paul is notorious for his brilliant alternate picking technique and his wide vibrato, not to mention his cleanliness of tone and overall precision. In this lesson I have decided to open with some riffing that makes use of a repeating pedal tone (on the low E string) and some 2 note power chords. This brings to mind tracks such 'Street Lethal' from Racer X or 'Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy' from Mr. Big.

Then we get into the more technically demanding side of Paul's playing.
Lots of alternate picking, string skipping and vibrato and tapping.

    This lesson will work on:

    - Rhythm
    - Alternate picking technique
    - String skipping
    - Tapping
    - Vibrato
