  • Hi and welcome to my new beginner lesson in the style of Steve Stevens. Steve is most well known as the guitarist for Billy Idol but has collaborated with numerous artists, including Vince Neil, as well as being involved in session work and a solo career.

Stevens is of course known for his performance on the "Top Gun" theme. I'm taking my cues from this classic piece of 80's history so be prepared for big reverb, big hair and big tone!

One of Steve's unique techniques is taking his inspiration from fingerstyle guitarists and applying it to rock songs such as Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell" or Vince Neil's version of "Set Me Free". This is a cool technique involving the use of the thumb for the bass notes and the first two fingers taking care of the upstrokes on the highest two strings.

You'll get a chance to stretch your fingers with the major arpeggio shapes at the end as well!

    Enjoy!
