Edge Of Sanity - Crimson Review
Original Author: Fsgdjv
Artist: Edge of Sanity
Genre: Progressive Metal
9 The sound is solid. It's not over produced or anything, but it's not under produced either. Other than that they have a really unique sound, except the fact that lots of bands has had the time to rip of the sound. Despite that, I would still say that it holds as something unique, it's got that special Dan Swanö vibe to it that nobody can copy. And I have to add a plus for making a song that's 40 minutes long and still making it feel like 1 song and not 10. If you listened to the first 3 minutes and skipped to the last 3, you'd still hear it's the same song. With that being said, it still doesn't get boring, there are lots of different parts in it, including an amazing goth rock part that I really love.
8 What can I say? Dan Swanö is one of my favourite riff makers, and this song is full of amazing riffs. Quite simple, but still amazingly catchy riffs. And lots of awesome lead parts aswell including an awesome lead part from Mikael Åkerfeldt. If you're looking for super technical things, this is not the right album or band, but the guitars do what they are supposed to, and nothing more than that. Just the way I like it.
Bass and drums
7 I've never really listened to this from a bass or drum perspective, and there's no part that makes me super amazed, but on the other hand there's no part that feels worse than the rest of the record.
10 Dan Swanö is amazing. His growls fit perfectly, and his clean voice is even better. The fact that he pulls of quite a few different clean styles also makes the overall vocal impression better. If that wasn't enough, Mikael Åkerfeldt adds some of his growls, and they really fit where they are. Quite similar to Dan's but a bit more agressive. It's just perfect.
In a very distant future, the last generation of planet earth
has come to a point where they cannot bred anymore.
When everybody had lost their faith, a child was born, but no
one could be the father, except for a god.
This child was a gift from the skies of life-divine or...
As you can see, this is the epic storytelling kind of song when it comes to the lyrics, and I usually get a bit annoyed with that, but they really pulled it off here, and it doesn't even feel cheesy. And that's an amazing feat for a song about a troubled world where a chosen one is born, etc.
The first lines of the song:
Another sky is young...
Another frozen future has passed.
Another breed, another cast.
The rivers will run, brought to life by the sun, the circle is
Oh, what a sight to see.
Reborn life, destined for all eternity.
9.5/10 This is a milestone in metal. Get this album now, I don't care how you do it. Listen to this and realise how much of a genious Dan Swanö is.
