Guitar Musical Notation

I'm confused

When he puts the A Minor Pentatonic scale in tab form it shows to play the E 6th String on the 5th tab, but when I tried to find out where he was starting out from on lesson 4 and started counting the scale (as in E open, so that means first fret would be F, second fret would be F#, third fret G minor, etc). I didn't get the 5th fret at A, I got the 5th fret at G#. So am I counting wrong?

Just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. I've always been an admirer of guitarist. Love the way the strings can play such a various array of feelings and sounds. I just started with Andy Mckee and tried to learn, but I always found different information for different ways to learn/play and kept getting frustrated. I still always listened to people like Mckee and Justin King for the pure joy of it. Today I saw that someone was able to play Justin King's Crown after only a year of learning. Then I saw a video of Erik Mongrain playing Airtap and I just cannot let myself not learn this. Saw this site's video on intro to tapping and subscribed ASAP. I hope to learn everything as well as possible and be as good as everyone here.
