Check this thing out! I know a lot of musicians who is using it live and for the studio recordings but I have never tried it myself Reviews are great but still not 100% convinced anybody here tried it or maybe own one of those? http://www.fractalaudio.com/ They are kinda pricy and I don't wanna spend so much money and be disappointed!
I have one and it rocks! If you are not satisfied, you can always sell it for more than you bought. Some are selling for 3300 USDs

I have the Ultra not the Axe Fx II and the thing is a beast, the programming gets as deep as you want, so overwhelming for some or a tweakers dream, apparently the AFII is easier to dial in.
I've used a set of presets made by a guy called Yek, and with minimal tweaking of stuff I have a great versatile set up.
The effects are of Eventide standard and I would say no one else has come close to the amp modelling yet, great to go straight into front of house and monitors.
For High Gain stuff check out samhillband on youtube, the guitarist Mark Day puts up a lot of great vids.

I'm currently on the waiting list for the Axe Fx 2. I sent the e-mail request for the discount code on 11-15-2011. No idea when I'll come up first on the list but can't wait!
Wow!! the demos I listened to of this processor preamp sound incredible! I gotta have one here is a link to the demo page if you havent found it yourself allready.
Sounds really powerful, and how not to -considering the price !
It's a very expensive unit but I think it's better to buy something that will be worth it for many years instead of changing your gear every year cause it brakes or you don't like the sound anymore

Definitely. Considering all the quality amps and effects stored in the axe fx (and in difference from companies like Line 6 - you get all updates for free as they are made) it's not really that expensive
Most djent-like music is done by axe fx, but here is a song maybe most people don't know was recorded almost exclusivly with the axe fx ultra:

These things are legendary. TONS of folks use them including wads of top notch pro touring groups. Not the least of which are Megadeth among others.
It's one of the best dedicated processors money can buy. You just can't go wrong with one. If you can swing the price, it's the one to have.

I am thinking about it still I use to have guitar processors years ago last one I had was vg-99 and I hated it! It didn't cut through the mix at all and it's a lot of work to program this thing

And it's Roland's flagship product I believe. Sorry to hear that, I was thinking it was better. V88 was legendary device.

I don't think you will be dissapointed mate, If I can pucnh in a good tone a get a good sound out of it, seasond guitarists like yourself would be in paradise. The AXE FX 2 is amazing, basically it's like having 50 different amps, they do such a good job of re creating the tone, you would find it hard to tell the difference if your eyes were closed.
Now I am not a great guitarist, but these guys have great demo's of what the AXE 2 can do. I got mine about a week ago and still am trying to figure out all the features, they just released a free update a few days ago giving you more amps and effects, the latest addition was the Fractal Audio 5150 amp sim. anyway here is IMO, some really good demo's, my REC take is here using a custom patch i dialed in within about 3 mins... http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...showtopic=42209
thanks to posterboy ( I think) for getting me onto Pete Thorn!
And of course the Master himself, Former GMC Instructor David Walliman....amazing guitarist

AxeFx are pretty much the thing I strive for the most. the POD HD Pro is less than half the price but comes fairly close from what I've heard.
Nothing gets a better clean tone than AxeFx, I just love it for that reason alone.

It's the best of the best. It can honestly replace your entire rig in one rack mount unit and give you more predictable results in live situations. It's a big step to abandon ones amps/pedals, but it's the trend of the future Pros are heading that way ahead of the curve a bit just due to the ease of travel. Of course, there are millions of players that won't let go of their individual pedals unless someone rips them from their cold dead hands! You gotta respect that

I'm very happy with my axefx. It's really great for patches which blend multiple amps and cabinets. The quality of the amp sims and effects is great and the control features are exceptional. I've tried a lot of amp sims and the axefx is the one I've settled on. It's not the ultimate rig though. For example the Avid Eleven has integration with proTools that is brilliant. When you record a track, the patch settings you used on that track are automatically saved in the song. The amp sims don't quite have the quality of the axefx though IMHO.
Ironically, after spending $2500 on my axefx, I still sometimes use my Johnson JStation, which can be found on eBay for about $50. The JStation was way ahead of its time and has a great dual rectifier emulation among others. It also has a feature the axefx doesn't have: an acoustic guitar emulator.

If you search the Axe FX Forum, under preset exchange, you will find many patches which simulate an acoustic guitar, to very good quality....
also check this clip of Marco Sfogli using the acoustic sim on the AXE FX 2 one of his songs... from James LaBrie's solo album http://youtu.be/eS3QBJElI64

Check out my recording above of acoustic guitar and violin, done on electric guitar with the Axe Fx Ultra, in a band situation the acoustic guitar emulation is fine for me, I would just use my acoustic guitar in any other situation

I think both the line 6 and axe both sound pretty good, granted I like the sound of the axe more so. It just seems to have a less boomy sound to me. But I'd love to have an axe personally. Just the price tag kills it for me.

Hey Alex we'll see you in a few months then!!!
You'll spend a few weeks jamming on the factory presets then you'll start to delve deeper making your own. Sometime in March you'll realise you haven't eaten or been to the toilet since you got it!!!

Axe II is ordered. I'm having it shipped to a friend in the US. I'll see it July 6... at the start of my vacation but won't be able to play it until July 19th when I arrive back home. I'm not complaining, it's going to be a kick-ass vacation.
My 5150III 50W head sold in a record 3 hours on my local craigslist last night. (Yeah I'm going all digital with my QSCK10 powered speaker for sound.) My Boss GT-10 is my rehearsal/practice rig in the meantime.

Cool. Don't they have a wait list nowadays ? I remember I had to wait 4-5 months before my turn came in last year.
Congratulations! Its one awesome gear with new updates every month or so.

No wait list. I ordered yesterday it shipped today. I got myself on the waiting list a while back so I had the wait list discount code. However they have stock and there is no wait.

Let me rephrase that. I didn't have to wait as when they announced the Axe 2 I got on the waiting list right away. My name on the list came up and I got a code to buy about 1.5 months back but didn't buy then and the code expired. Since I was on the waitlist previously, I emailed and they gave me a new code.
If you are not on the waitlist already, you do either 1) pay full price, don't wait or 2) get on the waiting list now, and probably have to wait a few weeks. (The price difference is $800 to get wait list price... versus full price... worth the few weeks to wait.)

I'm still very happy with the Ultra over 3.5 year with it now.
