  • Hi and welcome to my latest lesson. The name of the game this time is alternate picked licks in the style of Michael Angelo Batio, or MAB as he's also known. But don't despair at the perceived level of picking insanity that you may encounter. This is a beginner friendly level at beginner friendly tempos.

Michael is well known for his precise picking prowess and there are particular patterns that he likes to use often. We will use these patterns to develop your picking ability and also develop your confidence in crossing strings. You will be using the common 3 note per string patterns that we all use so it won't take you long to feel at home with this lesson.

Speed is not the goal right now. When developing picking, or any technique, your main focus should be on accuracy and consistency. Focus on making the technique sound the best it can at the lowest speeds and the speed increase will occur over time as you begin to push gradually for higher tempos. But that's something for the future. For now, just grab your guitar and get learning MAB's shapes!
