I think this topic has been before.

But here's your answer, just from the top of my head:

Shawn Lane
Frank Gambale
John Petrucci anno 86-93
Dan Rock
Brian McAlpin

There are probably more that could be added to the list...

Eh, I completely forgot about Jason Becker! And Marty Friedman for that matter.

Anyways: Jerry Cantrell was one of the first guitarists I was really in awe of - I used to think he was an amazing guitarist. He still is - for his genre, no doubt about it.

biggrin.gif i just discovered this guys stuff a bit ago.. two favorite songs are Cactus and I can't play the Blues smile.gif

My favorite guitarist is Gus G.. his stuff in Firewind and Dream Evil blows my mind, not because its overly difficult or technical but because imo that is metal, his rythem riffs and his solos can only be described as metal biggrin.gif

Other than that the list goes as follows
John Petrucci
Joe Duplantier
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
Peter Lindgrin
Willie Adler + Mark Morton

QUOTE ("Steve Vai")
Start by playing something - a bend, a riff, a scale, a song - very slowly; if you make a mistake, start over; do this over and over, until you can play it flawlessly - and I do mean flawlessly - many times in a row. Next, gradually increase the tempo. Eventually you'll be flailing like a madman.
