This is our thread for MTP during October!
Since you already started with Alternate Picking Thirds lesson I suggest that we use that one for month/REC assignment, ofc feel free to ask anything you need and post takes of it during month, you don't have to wait whole month to post final take only, more takes-more hints from me. And as for first weekly lets try something a bit mixed, use BT for Em Melodic solo and compose a solo inspired with AP Thirds lesson, use shapes and patterns from that lesson but using proper scales we discussed earlier to fit progression nicely. It doesn't have to be 100% inspired tho but as much as possible would be cool. Let me know if you have problems with any of scales, I'll be pleased to help you with that. And of course I would need a video or audio of that solo after 7 days, ok? This post has been edited by Muris Varajic: Nov 3 2009, 11:34 PM -------------------- Youtube

I will post a few vid's so we can see how I am progressing The main problem I am having now for this lesson is the finger position (what finger to use for the G and B sting for example) in the sequences in third intervals part going down and up. Same with the Cmaj. I don't seem to get them right and and I make mistakes every time I will try to make a tab for Em solo using Alternate picking. That will be in about 7 days in video or audio or both. See you next time Cheers Robert -------------------- Gear:

For weekly assignments you can post audio or video,
video would be better of course but audio would work as well, no need for both tho!! And as for fingering, I know what confuses you, I'll give you full explanations first thing when I'm back home from gig, I'm leaving in 5mins and it would take me lot of writing to explain everything. -------------------- Youtube

I can surely hear some progress here, specially over C major part!
However I noticed few "wrong" notes when you play C major in sequences of thirds, ascending line. You play E, D and E notes on high E instead of playing E, D and F. That leads you to totally different descending line compared to original lesson, you start from F note instead of E and whole pattern comes different. I'm gonna try to post a tab of it here and pay attention on bold notes. --------------------------------------------|----------------------------------10----12-10-13-| Then try to work out the bar that comes after bold notes, descending line. First note should be E on high E, 12 fret, not F as you played it. Now, major version had some more problems timing wise, you're probably still struggling with fingering so you went out of tempo a lot. You can try to practice that part by using different monitoring settings tho, set backing volume louder and lower the guitar volume a bit, it might help you to follow backing track and tempo far better. After you record it you can set mix back to normal where both backing and guitar are approx equally loud. What about improvised take over Em backing track? That was our weekly assignment actually, AP Thirds is our monthly assignment for REC. -------------------- Youtube

I am tabbing it in GP but there I only have a track with the solo. I there a way I can import the backing as an Mp3 in GP5 so i have two tracks? -------------------- Gear:

I'm really not sure if you can import mp3 in GP,
it works only with midi files I think. But you don't have to bother with tabbing your improvisation atm, just record an audio take, it'll be quite enough. I mention tabbing your takes in general AFTER you record them so that you could compare where you went wrong with timing. -------------------- Youtube

That was quite nice Robert, I can tell that your improvisation views
are getting wider and wider as we work more on improvisation, well done and keep it up! Here's our new weekly assignment tho, this time I have something different for you. Here's a GP file with kind a short solo that I composed for this occasion. What I want from you is to learn to play this piece, of course, but I also want you to figure out a chord progression for it as well. My suggestion would be to use one chord per bar, that would be quite enough. Analyze notes, figure out which scale were used, also pay attention if there were some arpeggios used cause that would instantly help you with chords. You can write chords in GP file as post it here or you can simply write progression in a post, what works better for you. As for playing, you can record your take over metronome only, ofc if you can use some kind of drum loop it would be even better. Let me know if you have any questions tho. Notes used are from the A scale: A-B-C#-D-E-F#-G#-A Chord progession major: Major triads I-ii-iii-IV-V-vi-vii Bar 1: Possible chord here: A (maj) notes: A,C#,E or variations like: A maj7 notes: A,C#,E,G# or or A2 / Aadd9 notes: A,C#,E,B A possiblity is also Cmin7 notes: C#,E,G#,B Bar 2: D chord notes: D,F#,A or variations like Dmaj 7 notes: D,F#,A,C# (if 1 bar was Amaj7) Bar 3: E chord E add 9 notes:E,G#,B,F# But also Bm7: notes:B,D,F#,A I have to go now Will finish this later -------------------- Gear:

Very very nice!!
Bar 5 should be Em tho, no need for using Bm there. And I guess you had a typo regarding bar 6, it was F#7 (cause of note A#), first you named A# note but then you said A which probably led to this tiny confusion. Is mp3 take ready to go? I would like to hear how you play it, expression wise. -------------------- Youtube

Ahh, sweeeet tone!!
This was a very surprise I must say, I almost expected distorted tone but you came up with clean one, good thinking. Tho I was expecting you to play it over metronome for better time tracking but never mind, this is more than great imo. I just came home from London tho, sorry for not posting your last weekly assignment before, will do it asap!! -------------------- Youtube

Well yeah, tempo in GP file was 80 bpm.
Anyways, no need to record another take, just use metronome for next similar assignments (GP file without BT) and it shall be just fine! BTW, how is your REC assignment going??? We have few more days left. This post has been edited by Muris Varajic: Oct 26 2009, 10:04 PM -------------------- Youtube

BTW, how is your REC assignment going??? We have few more days left. Well to be honest, I still make the same mistake at the end. (and I feel a "little" silly about that cause we are talking about very complicated stuff here) But the thing is I have that wrong 3th sequence in my head and I can't get it out. Today I started to loop the sequence starting on 20 bpm up to 50. That worked fine. I have to cement that to get it right otherwise I will go on automatic pilot and will play the wrong sequence at the end. I will try to make a video tomorrow. We will see -------------------- Gear:
