Hi. So i recently read an article by John Petrucci from 2013! who revealed his practising methods.
I was really inspired by him saying that he used a filing cabinet & assigned three parts of it to different aspects of his guitar playing. So, technique, music theory, scales for example, and then sub categories within those. He added practise items to each category as he went on & then when it was time to practise, he'd take one item from each category to practise. Very cool!

So I've decided to apply a more modern approach smile.gif

I've created folders with sub folders and i can collect my practise items in a digital format.

Now this may seem like a dumb question, but how do i save web pages into each category, so that i can assign it to a folder and then open it when i want to use that practise item?
I've tried clicking "save page as" or "save as" and save it to a folder, however once i try to open it again, it malfunctions. I think it's because it saves it as a HTML or something. But basically, i just want to be able to save a page, so that i can easily reopen it, without using the bookmarks in my web browser. I want to assign them to my documents & assorted folders smile.gif

Here's the Petrucci article for those who haven't read it already.

John Petrucci - Part 2

If you download google chrome and install it, then you will have the option to print the page as a pdf file. In the way you save them in their respective folders. Hope it help, Good luck.

When i save as a PDF, if there is a video on the page that you save, when you re-load it, it doesn't play because it basically saves it as an image or something

This is a great tip from the master! I remember reading similar tips from him a long ago and it really influenced my approach to practice. Building well organized guitar routines, and having a good archive of thing to work on has been my way of learning, practicing and teaching for a long time.

I hope that this thread inspire many GMCers to this method.

Well, here is what i've found to work so far "kind of"... But there must be a simpler way surely...

Here i copy the link of the page
Attached Image

I then open a blank text document & copy the link, then save as, into the specified folder & save as a HTML document.

I then locate the saved document in my specified folder and double click...

my web page opens with the link, which i then highlight, right click and select 'Go to address in new tab'

Yeah it's a real eye opener. I think i'd prefer the physical way of doing it, like he did with a filing cabinet. However there are a lot of youtube vids/GMC vids which i can easily access if i do it digitally.

So what do you guys do for your practise routine?

How do you organise your practises & motivate yourself to do them?

i've come to realise that the key to progressing on the guitar is with a practise routine, and i know i'm a bit late to the party, but i've hindered my own growth for years by not having one and it's time to put it right smile.gif

Nice to read this mate. You can check my mentoring threads at my personal board to see how I help to design guitar routines and programs to my students. The progress is awesome!

It's the best way to make our time effective. smile.gif

Great thread! I'm starting to get some ideas and get inspired to do something myself to make my practice time more effective.
