Hello GM(long time no)C.
I just bought an Ibanez RG920QMZ (Premium) Red Desert, and since I'm in Houston might as well make the trip worth it by getting a Line 6 POD HD500. The only technical issue is fitting the setup in a one-room apartment. I will start studying medicine (for 6 years) in Oslo, Norway, so room is an issue. So here is the question. Is it possible to work with the HD500 WITHOUT external monitors/speakers? I was thinking of guitar-HD500-PC and headphones into the PC or HD500 for the sound. Any help or other opinions on the HD500 would be appreciated! Alex This post has been edited by Alexiaden93: Jan 13 2012, 02:24 AM -------------------- My YouTube Channel

Yes it is possible. Very good for practising that way. Monitors are for mixing properly, although the task can be done with headphones and laptop speakers. Thanks for the quick response! -------------------- My YouTube Channel

Thank you. I guess it's time to get a nice pair of headphones too then. Depending on the price, i your looking to spend a decent amount. Try looking for a pair of BeyerDynamic DT770. I had them and I loved them, I used them everyday, guitaring, music, movies, gaming, whatever. They died a few weeks ago my own fault ripped the cord out. But the good news is I'm waiting for a new pair in the mail! -------------------- Guitars:

I've heard so much about Sennheiser and AKG, so I'll have to look around more before making the decision. Thanks for the recommendation though! -------------------- My YouTube Channel

I got a Pod HD500 the last week (I sold the X3 live) and I'm very happy with it!! You can use headphones for practising and also use it as a sound card to record and hear music from your computer. You can also connect and Ipod or mp3 to your pod for practising over songs and backing tracks. Another cool thing that includes this new Pod is a looper which could give you lot of fun!
About headphones I have a pair of Sennheiser that aren't so expensive and sound really good. The model is eH150. -------------------- My lessons

Sure, headphones are very good thing to use. I use AKG 141 MKII, and recommend them, they provide very precise, flat and tight sound. I enjoy using them for music and games just as much as for audio production.

Thank you guys for all the feedback! It's great to hear some expert advice from GMC after all this time, I'd almost forgot how helpful the members and instructors are here.
So far you've recommended Sennheiser EH-150 (Gabriel), SHURE (Todd), AKG 141 MKII (Ivan) and Monster Beats Pro (Alex). The last ones might be a few hundred dollars out of my price class at the moment, but I don't doubt they are a great buy for serious studio production. Gonna go to GuitarCenter and see what I find! About headphones I have a pair of Sennheiser that aren't so expensive and sound really good. The model is eH150. As the guys mentioned, you'll be fine with some decent headphones The key thing with headphones is to actually listen to them before you buy. If at all possible, give several contenders a listen during the same day to see how they compare. You'll notice the same brand names coming up often. For practicing, it really is just about them sounding good, they don't need to be perfectly accurate. As another option, I tried wads of heard gear and ended up getting the new SHURE headphones. Very flat/even response on them and I wanted to try something new. These are about $100 U.S. Sure, headphones are very good thing to use. Thanks for the recommendation though! Concerning headphones - be sure to read my thread - there are some ohm requirementsm namely the HD500 community recommends no less than 40 ohms or you risk "popping" noises, etc. The thread can be found here https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...showtopic=42275 I use the Senheisers - they sound great, no issues. I'm still exploring the HD500 myself - It's great for practicing quietly - you can plug in an iPod to practice against backing tracks, and it has a looper which is great! And with headphones, you get the true stereo sound of your effects. Cheers, Chris -------------------- The more I practice, the more I wish I had time to practice!

With what I have now I use Sony Professional headphones...they run around $99 USD. I use them for sound booth at gigs also. This post has been edited by Michael AC: Jan 14 2012, 03:53 AM |

I wasn't aware at the time, but I happened to buy a pair off BeyerDynamic DT770... o_O I just got them in yesterday. They sound weird for now, I need to get them broke in. Nothing like pushing them to the limits with dubstep when asleep or at work! -------------------- Guitars:
