Hi guys, as promised I would do a approach on lil' Wayne's unique guitar style.
We are going to look at the solo from this song :

The Riff
Riff breaks down at 0:35

Insight
As we all know , Lil Wayne has an unique style of guitarplaying, Some can only dream of it.
It took me some time to prepare and tab this lesson, but here are some insights.

First off all we are going to look at the riff at 0:18.
If you look at the video, you can really hear his emotion in the tone, the guitar and the overall style.

I am not worthy but I will try to help you guys out with this solo.
Some of you might not now, but Lil Wayne creates his own musical scales where he improvises in.
This one is called the " P.I.M.P Scale " and works on any of his songs

I recorded my take on the solo, to try and recreate his feeling, It is in the attachement.

The Tab :

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
---13-------15------13----15----13--15^?---------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

the ? is a variable in this solo, you can just overbend, underbend. It is all cool.

The Gear
Lil Wayne has his own custom made guitars named Skwajjer. They have infinite sustain and tone,
He often uses his "Gold Teeth Tremolo" and the "Playah's Phaser". His tuning is in E with a lowered G and
the B string tuned just a little higher. This gives that extra feeling

The Conclusion

Needless to say you can't just go out and play this, It's a process and takes a while.
Some say he taught Steve Vai how to play guitar.

Good Luck !

Oh yeah btw, can I have my student instructor badge now smile.gif ?

Very impressive! What is this, Level 12? You managed to capture the total essence if this very gifted artist and you are to be commended. After seeing the sheer awesomeness and complexity of "Lil Wayne Style", I am, more than ever, just going to stick to rhythm playing.... no sense in even trying to learn something like this!

Nice lesson, I will have to practice severnal hours a day or more!

Oh wow, it's really hard to get that ultra off beat timing! Plus that good palm muting without a pick is near impossible too.

He shouldn't be in rap, he should be singing and playing guitar solos, that's where his talent sleeps!
