I was reading an article that says lots more young Italians are turning to the traditional job of being a shepherd as they can't find work. I must admit that I can't blame them.

I'd be willing to bet that a lot of these guys will be happier doing this then they would ever be doing anything else. What do you guys think ? Do you think you could enjoy the life of a shepherd ? The solitude, living with nature, no modern day pressure and society issues. It does sound quite good.

I am a Black Metal fanatic laugh.gif

Of course! In fact, I had always romanticised that if I never could do anything musically, I would move to Sweden where my mother's family came from and I would become a shepherd!

Hell, even Varg Vikernes of Burzum owns a farm and shepherds/plows for everything he needs now.

I think if I took to Shepherding I would be living in continual fear of being kidnapped, killed and put into Pies, Sweeny Todd style!!!!

There was an article in El Pais a few years ago that rich Spanish business bods were taking shepherding lessons as a means to de-stress.

Don't know if they still do that now that El Crisis has hit Spain hard. They're probably more stressed but may no longer have time and money on their hands...

Yeah. He was released on parole in March of 2009. He and his current wife own a small farm in Telemark, Norway.

Speaking Of Varg Vikernes, Burzum's new album comes out soon. It has already been leaked, too.

Really ?? I can't help but wonder how he managed that, it can't be cheap owning property in such a beautiful setting. It's not like he's amassed a fortune, surely ??

Burzum makes a lot of money. He never has to tour or anything(Not that he would). Plus, I am pretty certain that his wife is a Professor of Viking Religion at a University in Norway. She helped him write this book:

Yeah I guess there's not much financial outlay in making his records. I know he's got a big, cult following but I'm still surprised that it would bring in much money. Does Burzum have a lot of Merch as well, 'cause that's where a lot of the income is ?

Of all people, sounds like he might have the right idea about making a living from music.. although morally I can't agree with the guy as he never seemed to acknowledge he did anything wrong or showed any remorse.

He has a lot of Merch. I know he has received a couple hundred dollars from me hahaha.

I really disagree with a lot of his viewpoints, though. His bigotry offends me.

Yeah, the whole nationalistic... well, let's be honest, racist, stance is very backward. There's quite a lot of that in black metal even to this day. However, it's still a compelling genre. I went through a real phase of it (the music, not the racism !) when I was around 18/19.. Mayhem, Emperor, Satyricon.. the most old school lo-fi I ever got was a Darkthrone album. Nowadays, the only bands from that genre I still listen to are Dimmu, Satyricon and.. (dare I say it ?) Cradle of Filth. Although I'm thinking of finding out my Emperor albums again smile.gif

That's the good stuff about it, it really took you to a different place.. mainly Norway haha laugh.gif

This is very true. That is probably the only part about being a shepherd that would be incredibly stressful laugh.gif

+1

I am appalled by racism. That is the sad thing. There are a lot of National Socialist Black Metal groups to this very day. One thing I am happy about, is that Varg leaves those ideologies out of his music. He isn't a Nazi, though. he is an Odalist. A lot of people within the NSBM genre really dislike him, too. He is hated by all sides.

There are actually a few Black Metal groups around here that are a part of the NSBM genre, and I do have to share the stage with some of them when I play with my Black Metal group, but they know very well to keep their ideologies to themselves around me. I have gotten into a few scuffles because of it laugh.gif

A lot of people dislike Cradle of Filth, but until someone else can scream the way Dani does in "Honey and Sulphur" or "Tragic Kingdom" I will continue to believe that he is awesome. Plus, they put on really great concerts.

Emperor is definitely a favourite. I actually play "With Strength I Burn" as a warm-up song. Oddly enough, the solos are the easiest parts of the song. I still have trouble playing the rhythm directly after the first solo. There are so many powerchord changes at such a high rate of speed(170 BPM) that I mess up frequently.

Also, I think System of a Down got their style solely from the verses of "With Strength I Burn". There is a very noticeable similarity. Good thing I could never find soad interesting enough to listen to, hahaha.
