Ken, I understand what you are saying and I admire you for being able to sort out your strengths and follow a path in accord with them - not many people are able to do so and I think you are a great player - frankly, I haven't heard one recording from you that I didn't like, so far smile.gif So, that's my two cents! Not to stray from the topic, you discovered what your strengths are and you accted accordingly - even if you didn't know you will have a carreer as a freelance musician, it slowly came to you and you started preparing for it more and more. There are many people that can't put their finger on their strenghts unfortunately, so I think that the ones that are able to point them out and use them are very lucky indeed smile.gif

Why not state what we want to be as musicians? smile.gif Maybe it's a good start for everyone to figure out what they want from themselves as musicians:

I will start out like this:

I want to keeep growing into a good song writer/guitar player/singer that is able to put his own work into practice in the studio and onstage, express his message clearly towards the listeners.

My current abilities are:

- I think I have a good melodic and rhythmic sense
- I can sing
- I can sing and play the guitar in the same time
- I can be expressive
- I think I have a pretty good ear

My favorite techniques:

- bending, vibrato
- riffing
- legato
- chordal play

What are yours?

This is a hard one for me too.

I first started playing guitar because i wanted to be able to play along at home with my favourite songs and impress my friends.

That was it...

Now that I'm getting better, (thanks to GMC) I am really interested in writing/recording my own songs. Writing music that i enjoy listening to and expressing my emotions/thoughts, through composing music and lyrics.

My current abilities:

- I think I have a good melodic sense
- I have good rhythmic sense
- I have a good ear

My favorite techniques:

- Vibrato
- Arpeggio's
- Staccato
- Bending/sliding
- Hammer on's/pull off's

Andy

It was a s l o w and gradual almost invisible process. I didn't really realize it until it was happening.

I know and that makes things even more interesting, because you had the guts to follow the path wink.gif I think you are a good example, man!

Hey buddy!

Glad to see I managed to spark something with my question biggrin.gif Now, I'd be curious to hear some of your compositions, so that we can see how our suggestions can help you out on your journey on becoming a better writer. Can you share some of your work with us, please?

By all means, mate smile.gif When you feel like it, just drop a PM or make a post in the Practice room, if you wish that everyone will see it and comment, or bring up suggestions.
