Hi Chrism! Welcome to your thread for my mentoring program called "Gab's Army". Here we will do an amazing Metal Journey together! My idea is to help you with all the technique and theory stuff necessary to become a top level metal guitarist who can play as the masters but that can also compose killer metal songs. Some of the things that we will work here are:
- Guitar techniques + Alternate Picking + Down picking + Palm Muting + Sweep Picking + Harmonics + Vibrato + Bending + Legato + Tapping - Music Theory + Pentatonic scale + Major and Minor Scales + Intervals + Triads + Arpeggios + Chords + Tonalities + Modes - Composing + Ear training + Transcribing + Song Analysis + Creativity workouts + Recording audio and Midi + Mixing & mastering concepts These would be a good plan if you want to master Metal playing. I would like to have some more info about you: - How many time have you been playing guitar? - Favorite guitarists and bands - Your guitar and musical goals - What do you know about theory? - Weak and strong points? - How many time per day can you play? - Do you have any video of you playing? Please post it! -------------------- My lessons

Please post it! Hi Gabriel. Good day. -I had been playing almost 30yrs on and off and only strumming with a songbook. -John Petrucci, Yngwie malmsteen, James Hetfieid. -To improvise Metal and neoclassical style. -How the chords are constructed, the concept of circle of 4ths or 5ths, diatonic group of chords, Major scale thru the whole guitar neck and its relative minor and harmonic minor. -I can improvise melodically and have a bit of musical ear weak points are the technical side. -I have 3hrs a day practice time. -the last 5 yrs I collected some DVDs guitar books and it helped me just a little maybe I'm without guidance that's why. And thank you for that. I attached an audio of me improvising the quality is poor but you can know what my level is now. I will video record myself playing on the exercises next time. Thank you. Hi mate! Thanks for the info. It's great to know that you have 3 hours per day to dedicate to guitar. If we design an effective routine and you practice it every day, your playing will show important improvements in a short period of time. Metal and Neoclassical metal require a good control of different techniques as alternate picking, sweep picking, vibrato, bending and legato. I will help you to design a routine covering them but that includes some creative work.
At first I will ask you to choose one of these lessons (the one that is at your level), learn it, record a video and share it here. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...evels-beginner/ https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...s-intermediate/ When do you think you will be able to post the video? -------------------- My lessons

Great to know it mate! I'll be waiting for your video. Hi Gabriel. Sorry I can't send a video yet. I'm still dealing with audio latency when I record with reaper and amplitube vst. I just record myself playing with the assignment you had given to me with my phone. I had chosen the beginner level. https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...evels-beginner/ . Attached is the audio. I tuned my guitar half step lower just like what the lesson says. Good day and thank you. |

Hi mate, this is a good first effort. Technically this lesson is very close, you just have to improve your bending technique because sometimes you don't reach the correct pitch. The main problem of this take is timing: You are playing the licks after the beat most of the times. For example, the lick starting at 00:11, should start at 00:10 when the chord change takes place. And this same problem happens every time a new phrase starts. The best way to practice and master this is playing the lesson over the original take concentrate on on going tight with Marcus playing.
This problem can be accentuated if you are having latency issue so it's very important to fix this problem. Could you find the place where you set this? -------------------- My lessons

Hi again Chrism. This lesson is a very good choice and you have to continue working on it to make your bending technique more precise and reach the correct notes. There are also timing issues that should be fixed playing the lesson over the original take. So focus on pitch and timing while you practice this one. Also, incoporate 10 minutes every day practicing this exercise: http://youtu.be/Hh_pYY6UYIw
About timing, the most important thing that you should incorporate is tapping with your foot while you practice. When licks become more difficult , they require all our attention and this makes us more difficult to pay attention to aspect. That's when the timing issues appear. If you tap with your foot (or maybe use your head to follow the rhythm), you will be feeling the groove instead of thinking on it so it will becomes easier to play tight. Try it with this lessons, it can seem to be "a new problem" but it will be an advantage in some hours. If you want to work on a lesson based on this topic, check out this one: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...iming-exercise/ -------------------- My lessons
