A Princely Etude

Hi GMC!

Welcome to my new lesson. This time round i’ve put together an Etude using the harmony from the tune ‘Someday My Prince Will Come’. The focus of the study is picking and how we feel most confident picking ‘down’ when on the beat. This etude looks to flip that on its head, encouraging you to get more comfortable picking up when playing on the beat.

This came about because when playing triplet 8th notes the picking would often go down up down, up down up. You can see that beat 2 starts with an upstroke. There are ways around this where you play; down up down, on repeat but this can cause a stutter sound or just an impossible adjustments at higher speeds. What we are looking at here is a way to build more confidence when picking Up on the beat.

It might feel a little strange to start with but stick with it. The confidence and feel it gives are worth it.
