Hi GMC'ers! Welcome to this lesson about the song “Ain't talking about love” by Van Halen.
Van Halen is an American rock band formed in Pasadena, California in 1972. They have enjoyed large scale success since the release of their debut album Van Halen (1978). As of 2007, Van Halen has sold 80 million albums worldwide and have had the most number-one hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. During the 1980s they also had more Billboard Hot 100 hits than any other hard rock or heavy metal band (Wikipedia quote).
This song is from their first record called like the band “Van Halen”. In the first video you will find an explanation for the form of the song and which parts are included into the lesson and which aren't. In the lesson you'll find how to play all the rhythm guitar parts.
Techniques used in the lesson:
* Legato
* Palm Mute
* Alternate picking
* Use of the whammy bar
The tunning is standard E tunning and the key of the song is Am (although the original song is a ¼ tone below that tunning).
I hope you like the lesson!
If you have any questions please feel free to send me a PM or make a post in my personal board.
Cheers!
PS: I recorded this tune with a Pod XT. Here you can download the patch that I used: LINK
