Hi GMC!
This is improvisation on harmony which is often used in fusion music, not very difficult really. D min9 and D maj7, you can play minor scale over first chord and major over second. There are lots of options there but I recommend playing just one scale, that is G minor and G harmonic minor. There is a tricky part in the second part, where I play power chords, with string skipping; you may recognize that Petrucci uses that kind of patterns, especially in Liquid Tension Experiment. Keep the timing right, that particular patterns is played in 3rds, so it’s 3 tones per beat, and also pay attention when you come back on E string to repeat that’s the most difficult!
Regards!
Vasilije
