  • Welcome to my new lesson!

This time we worship at the altar of the indisputable master of the riff... Mr Tony Iommi.
Tony Iommi and his band, Black Sabbath, should need no introduction!

This lesson is inspired by some of Black Sabbath's more recent songs like 'Bible Black' and the latest single 'God Is Dead ?'. There's some arpeggiated clean guitar chords for a verse section and then a typically doom-laden 'chorus' with power chords. Then a solo to finish.

Black Sabbath evolved from playing blues music so a lot of their compositions are minor pentatonic based. Of course, the thing that made them really stand out was their use of the diminished 5th - the Devils' Note. It's demonic sound, allied to Sabbath's heavy power chords formed the blueprint for heavy metal itself.

    This lesson will work on:

    - Picking chords
    - Power chord shifting
    - String bending
    - Timing

So, put on your blackest attire and pay tribute to the left handed genius of Mr Iommi!
