I have one question. I noticed a lot of teachers on this site, when they bend, use the pointer finger to mute the strings and also sometimes when they apply vibrato. Is this really necissary? Ive seen some players not use this technique (I don't)and still sound ground. Although I do sometimes get unwanted string noise during bends. Would you recommend I switch to that technique.

@Dashooter

I actually picked this up from Pavel a few months ago. WHen playing you should ALWAYS be thinking about muting - its one of the reasons that our instructors have such a clean sound. This is a great way of guarding against unintentional string hits - you could thnk of it as insurance. You might not need it all the time but its good to have it there if you do need it !

the point i think here is for you to observe on what his hand is doing, try to replicate that, see if it leads to you discovering what works for you and whatnot.

Anyway, great lesson! i love the solo, great melody and feel to it, and it appears as if your pick is glowing.

Thanks for kind comments guys,
appreciate it a lot!!

@Dash...I usually put index finger on string which is bended,to have stronger grip.
But it does mute strings a lot when I'm not bending.
Try it with and without this technique but always do your best to mute unwanted sounds.
If you have more questions,please!

@E-S-J
Best scale to get bluesy vibe is probably pentatonic.In this lesson I used mixolydian mode and major scale as well,regarding to chord progression.Every key is fine tho..
First try with pentatonic and keys like A,E,G etc.
Latter on when you find yourself good with these,add scales I mentioned above and in different keys.
Let me know when you notice any progress!!

On those bends.. To get that technique down, which is called scraping I believe, you will need to learn how to mute. It takes a while to get good at it. Different people have different ways of doing it, but the way I figured out how to do it was to mute the strings I didn't want to sound with my right hand. So I would use the side of my hand to sort of mute the strings until I got to the string that was to be fretted and then I would let off. That may be the harder way to do it, I am not sure. Just give it time though.

Yes Sanders4617, there are many ways to mute while bending,palm muting is one of them of course.
For long duration bends to mute unwanted strings I'm also using right hand fingers.
Per example,if bend is on B string I'm touching G string with middle finger and high E with ring finger.
Just an idea,try as many as you can,
and mute the world!! smile.gif

great lesson muris:)

but when you use like vibrato is it necessary to have your like wrapped around the neck?
Muris Varajic
post 18th July 2007

Instructor

That's probably best thing if you want to have much power in vibrato while bending...
But you find your position,the best that fits you...this is just way how I do it. rolleyes.gif

This is awesome man, you make these riffs sound sweet, and your distortion whenever you pick, makes your notes sound 'explosive'. Dunno how you do it man but both your tone and this lesson is FANTASTIC.
