I'm with Kris 100% smile.gif I use LOGIC X for pretty much everything as it comes with a HUGE library of sounds/instruments/samples/etc. which makes kontact sorta pointless. However, this is only for Mac folks as Logic won't run on windows.

Like Kris I do use plugins for drums. I do also use OVERLOUD for my guitar plugin as it's still the best one I've yet found and far better than the stock one in Logic imho. I do also use OZONE. But for pretty much all strings/synths/etc. There is so much built in to Logic that I've never needed much else. I used to own a full version of Kontact that came with the external hard drive. I eventually just stopped using it when I switched away from using guitar rig which came with it.

I realize this is of no help at all to windows users though. It is a good reason to think about using a mac for music production imho. I bought my m1 mac mini for $600 and now that the plugins I do use are "native", it runs great despite only having 8 GB of ram. Logic costs $200 and comes with so many of it's own instruments/samples/midi libraries/etc. that it saves thousands of dollars of expenditure.

Not to mention, it will now run on an iPad smile.gif

Here is a quick tour of some of logics built in software instruments.

I Well I have chosen to only stick with stock plugins of logic pro X (except for drums) - it seems that every time I go search for a new cool sound I find it in the logic synthesizers.

However I must admit I have never managed to get my orchestral sounds the way Piotr does it in his Winter Tune lessons.

And if I am not mistaken he uses Kontakt 😎👌

I was teaching at GMC during it's peak and you are SPOT ON imho. I really think it was the live video chat lessons that gave GMC it's edge and was the foundation of what was then a thriving community. Each video chat lesson was a way to attract students on a certain time/day to a certain place on the web to be together and study music, interact, etc. It created the sense of community which then followed into the forum which was thriving.

I still remember when Kris told me that the video chat plugin was going away and we were not going to be replacing it. I knew then that this was going to have a hugely negative impact on the site and the community. Sadly, I was correct. I don't know if bringing video chat lessons back again would fix all of the issues. But I do think that not having them is still a big part of the reason the community is not growing. sad.gif

I joined when GMC was at its peak. Where we had live instructor lessons each evening etc.

One of the big changes on the Internet is platforms like Teachable and Patreon which allows guitar instructors to do things themselves and they don't necessarily need platforms like GMC.

It's tough for Kris to attract talent due to this I'm sure, but it doesn't take away from the huge library of lessons amassed here.
I come and go as a paid member depending on my needs and spare time. At the moment pedal steel is getting my focus.

I still do what I can to promote GMC, I did earlier this week to a member of TGP who was looking at Truefire but was more into Metal and Grunge so I told them that GMC is a better fit and I used to be a moderator for Truefire!

Post the link to the Facebook group here as Im sure it will help!

Have you checked out this one? It's from OTTO and it's about the heaviest amp sim I've ever heard. it does require a software ilok for the 14 day demo which is a bit of a pain, but once it's installed its' just glorious. It doesn't have any FX or anything. But just to get this type of tone, I usually have to do a ton of tweaking and pre/post EQ. But with this plugin, it's just BAM done.

https://ottoaudio.net/products/ii-ii-ii-ii-...im-14-day-trial

Here is Ola talking about it.

Very cool!!! I started doing a podcast with a great guy from Norway who loves Rack Gear!! We did two of them so far. Anyone else doing a podcast?

The first one with Jamie Cramer from 80s Christian metal band HOLY SOLDIER

The second one with Joe Moder who worked at ROCKTRON in the 80s

Cool tone and cool playing and a cool guy! I'm shocked he only has 300 subs? It's just criminal. I just don't get it at all. His content is great!!! It looks like he's only been on youtube for about a month or so. I also don't get that at all. Most guitar players have been on youtube for years at this point. Odd.

Spot on as always smile.gif I agree all the way on the KALI. The LP6 are a great set of monitors. You can get a great deal on a pair of used gen 1 Kali now that the gen2 our out and the difference is minimal in terms of performance imho. The ADAM are also a fine choice. I've got a pair of the Kali LP6 gen 1 and I love them to death. I sold my KRK monitors shortly after getting the Kali.

QUOTE (klasaine @ Apr 17 2023, 10:13 AM) *
Can you hear the EQ tweaks and compression examples when you're listening with headphones?

Monitors do potentially make a big difference, providing that your listening space doesn't have big problems i.e., standing waves, bass buildup, too live, too dead, bad placement, etc.

The Kali Lp6s are pretty good near-field monitors.
You may want to look into the new Adam T7 V. They're probably $100 more than the Kalis.
$500 (USD) per pair.

After that JHS vid, they are now worth a couple hundred bux and climbing smile.gif Folks are asking upwards of 600 bux each!! Just goes to show what one video from an "influencer" can do to product prices. I blame myself and a few others for wrecking the prices of cheap rack gear like the vintage ART stuff which was considered utter trash until a few years ago when myself and a few other youtube guys started doing retro gear vids and them bam, this stuff doubles/triples in value.

I bought it back in the 00s.
Very good pedal indeed, and back then I think it cost around 40 euros new.
Digitech was THE brand to have back then hehe

he clearly doesn't seem to need social media, even in the age of social media wink.gif It's actually quite refreshing to see a pro level player who just doesn't care about social media. It does go to show, as Mr K says, social media is a full time job. Just like touring/gigging, it's an every day thing. You gotta be doing it every day or you just can't get traction.

QUOTE (Steve Gilfield @ Apr 6 2023, 04:52 AM) *
Totally agree with Klasaine.

I think he is too busy actually working in Japan.

BUT if I could talk to him, I would ask him why hasn't he hired someone to handle his social media.

My guess is that he doesn't need the social media hype/traction in order to get hired, he can do it without it.

I've started using my biz facebook account in replying in various youtube groups/forums and it's resulted in a huge spike in my page views on youtube and a huge spike in my subs/views on youttube as well. My name on my biz account on facebook is my url for my youtube page. It's my domain name which is a redirect to my youtube page (techniqueswithtodd.com) so every post and every reply to a post that I've made features my URL.

I don't know why I never thought of this before? You can make a youtube biz account for free and use the same login. so you can use your URL as the account name and when people reply to you, it uses your url smile.gif free promo!

Doubtful. I don't think there is much chance of seeing it in production again to be honest. It's just seeing a bump in interest due to this JHS video. It will fade back into obscurity pretty quickly I'm guessing and these will get cheap again.

It's great for anyone who has one they'd like to sell! They are going for a couple hundred bux currently!

Here is a link to the current offering of digitech OD pedals. I'm amazed they still make this many smile.gif

You may have heard about the internet blowing up over JHS making a video about the Digitech Bad Monkey overdrive and showing how it was just about as good as the KLON and wads of other pricey overdrives. As a result, people are trying to charge upwards of $600 for these cheap digitech pedals that have been out of production for quite some time.

To make it worse, wads of folks have taken to social media to blame JHS pedals and say that its' all his fault for making these types of comparison videos in the first place.

Here is the video in question.

Of course, asking ain't getting and people are only paying a couple hundred bucks in reality.
