It's a fantastic honor to present a new lesson by Shai Agmon - called Epic Tales - 1 String Legato Etude.

Attached Image
Shai Agmon

Shai contacted me about various shred etudes he had recently put together - and they were extremely cool sounding with high instructional value.

Digging deeper into it - I discovered Shai had a broad and deep musical style - and several killer compositions of his own. I urge you to check out his profile and social media channels here.

Welcome to GMC Shai! cool.gif

QUOTE (MisterM @ Mar 16 2019, 09:31 AM) *
Thank you Monica for feedback

It’s hard because it rushes a lot of things.
Soon 7 years I play the guitar again and I had never noticed that.

I will try to hold on but I see this as a mountain to cross.
To conclude it is very discouraging

I have always been patient, I will try to continue

You must have misunderstood my message because you have no reason to be discouraged. If my prediction is correct, you have a very steep learning curve ahead of you. If you practice what I showed you we might be talking about weeks only until you will emerge as a much more confident 'picker' - given how good your technique looks even without this essential movement.

So to clarify, I don't expect you to build any speed with the "joint movement only" method I showed you. You should just practice it at slow tempos, and then try picking with your normal technique and see what happens. Does it make sense?

QUOTE (Monica Gheorghevici @ Mar 15 2019, 08:47 AM) *
As a conclusion, using your thumb while picking will help you to have a good control over strings and also to reach higher speeds (because it minimize the move and maximize the speed).
Learning to work with my thumb was the thing which made me able to play the lessons from level 8. smile.gif

And there you go. Monica has made insane alternate picking progress recently!

I recorded a quick video to try to explain how you can go about isolating and practicing the thumb joint movement:

Incredibly smooth Ken, and that bridge pickup looks so retro I would love to have it just for the looks alone!

Very nice!

For most part the mistakes I can hear are not within the difficult picking passages. This tells me you have been focusing very hard on the picking and you got it down.

One reason you may have felt this was incredibly tricky to get down - is because it seems to me that all your picking movement is coming from your wrist (+ a little bit of forearm). This is great as it allows for consistency at higher speed.

However: The real precision comes from the thumb joint movement. And crossing strings without any thumb joint movement is very difficult. This could explain why you seem to resort to economy picking as soon as you get the chance.

It might seem like the most skilled guitarists don't use the joint movement, however I believe most do. But because it is there for high precision only, you won't really notice it.

So given how good your technique looks now, I would suggest focusing a little bit on picking with the thumb joint only. When you have done this for a little while there is a major chance you will emerge as a very skilled and flexible picker.

To practice this, start with a 1-2 string picking exercise, and lock your wrist and forearm. So the only way to pick will be using your thumb joint (because the other parts are "locked" - ie not allowed to move).

You get a 7 from me. I am very excited to follow your progress cool.gif

Nice Farine,

To my ears this is really tasty - you have dialed in a great tone with lots of reverb (but still tasty).

Your mix is very different from Javier's though, namely your lead is not always that easy to hear. So if you went for a dry sound that was mixed loudly (like Javier) - any playing mistakes would be much more exposed.

If you say you felt very nervous about this take, then I bet the non-nervous version sounds totally amazing. My suggestion would then be for you to record yourself as often as possible as your non-nervous playing will shine through more and more with every take smile.gif

You get an 8 from me. Go for it!!

Wow well spotted! I started researching user IDs when I saw it was actually my post blink.gif

So I am assuming this is a test post that somehow made it undiscovered to the live site.

Removed now - thanks!

I have an LTD MH-1000, and although I love the specs of it - it seems my RG is a little snappier tone wise. I think part of it might be the bolt-on neck which I prefer to the set/glued necks.

I have to say I play both of them regularly though biggrin.gif

Firs, I love your tone - sounds amazing!

Many of the fast licks give me the impression you were not quite ready for this one - though I have to say it is very promising. I can't quite recall I have heard you play in this genre before - it's very exciting you are expanding your horizons! Can't wait to hear you play this one if/when you choose to give it your full attention!

You get a 6 from me, keep up the amazing work!

Wow the level of creativity in this one is mind blowing - and it's so cool how you caught the perfect vibe for it! And it feels great to see Maharzan and Piotr in a collab again.

This one totally slipped of my radar and I really regret I didn't record a take in time. It's a good thing there will soon be a new one cool.gif

Putting this one up on the frontpage now!

Any chance of having some more options (for inserting YouTube links for instance) in the quick/fast reply? I actually got used to just using the mouse click option for adding a YouTube video.

I think you can copy the "embed" code from youtube and paste directly into the GMC text field.
