Just thought I'd stop in and say hi.
A long time ago in my high school and college days I used to goof around on an second hand Explorer clone with a Fender practice amp. I wasn't very good, but I had fun with messing around with it. I put it away when I got married and it sat in the closet gathering dust for many, many years. About two years ago, I was cleaning out the closet and stumbled across my old beat up guitar. I got it and the amp out and dusted them off and started to goof around on it. I had forgotten how much I liked playing!
After a few weeks of noodling around and building up some calluses, I decided I needed something a little better to play on. I picked up a Fender Lite Ash Strat and a Carvin solid state amp. I started playing around an hour a day (hard to get much more free time with a wife, 3 kids and a job) and have really been enjoying myself. I slowly built up a decent collection of Boss pedals and with the help of a bunch of tabs off the net, began to improve. This past March, my wife was happy that I was playing so much (and not online gaming which she hated!) that she bought me an Ibanez RGA121A for my birthday! What a fantastic guitar. I liked my Strat by I love the Ibanez. Naturally this soon led to upgrading the amp. I picked up an Atomic amplifier and a Digitech GNX3000.
The new gear really inspired me to play more and I have been rocking my office out every night. I have slowly been getting better, but it's really hard to improve by listening to a song and looking at a tab of it. I had tossed the idea of taking guitar lessons, but with my work schedule and family life, it was too hard to set up a schedule that I could make regularly. So I looked out on the net to see if there were any classes or computer based instruction. I stumbled across this site a year or so ago and while I thought Kris was rather amusing, I never seriously thought of joining. Then I found this site again and started looking around at some of the free lessons and listening to Kris. I absolutely love the way that each lesson is broken down in steps, watching the fingering, along with the tabs and background tracks. This approach fits me to a tee. I decided to bite the bullet and joined for 6 months.
I have just spent the past two hours trying to master Rocker Riff 2. I'm getting close but just have to build up some speed. I am extremely impressed with how much faster I can pick it a song like that with the lessons.
Anyway, that's enough rambling - great site guys!
