Monthly solo:
Pick a backing track you would like to solo over. I want you to put the scales and triads you have learned to use. You could use either the phrygian or lydian backing by Muris or you could create your own. Let me know what you want to do here.

Don't I have to use the BT created by Jeff?

Ok, I'l find something with A Ionian as major scale tongue.gif That would make things a bit easier for me wink.gif

There's still something i don't get... example:
play over backingtrack in D maj. Then I think, let's give it a lydian sound, try D lydian! but then, when I search D lydian in my diatonic key chart, D lydian is compared to A Ionian... Does that mean I can play A Ionian over a Dmaj track??? I don't think so wink.gif

You should compare D Lydian to D Ionian to find the difference between the two. D lydian is the same as A Ionian though. You have to compare modes with the same tonal center....In this case D.......to find the difference between the two. smile.gif

Sorry, I still hvae the same question. When I play in the key of Dmaj, should i use D Ionian and then check which other modes share the same notes, or should I use the mode with D, so D lydian, or D Dorian (they should be major, I get that tongue.gif ). If I'd use the D lydian on a Dmaj BT (D,D,E,E e.g.) then the comparitive major scale is A maj.. but Amaj on Dmaj key.. that sounds kinda weird to me.

Kaz...When you are trying to figure out what makes lydian...a major mode.....sound like lydian, you have to compare it to the Ionian scale. But....You have to make sure the roots are the same. You would compare D lydian to D major. You could play D Ionian over the Dmajor chord in this progression but if you play the D major/Ionian scale over the E Major chord it will sound weird because The D Ionian scale doesn't contain E Major...It contains E min...Only D lydian contains E major. The D Ionian and D mixolydian mode both contain E minor. Does that help?

Not sure...

Something I don't get is that D lydian and D ionian aren't just a bit different, they're a lot different. I thought that over a Dmaj backing you can use al major modes with D as root.

So.. I have a Cmaj BT, for instance in Pedjas collab.
I can use C Ionian mode. What modes can I use??? Ionian mode only? If I check the chords, they only fit in the C Ionian mode. but then, ist it possible to use another mode on only one chord? for instance over the Amin7 chord?

There is only one note difference between D Lydian and D Ionian....G#....That one note affects 3 chords though. So they are quite different that way.

You could do what you what you were talking about with Pedja's backing track. This is what jazz/fusion guys do....analyze what to play on a chord by chord basis instead of looking at the whole progression and trying to choose one scale that works for the whole thing.

Remeber though....Pedja's collab is only about chord tones. You can only play notes that are found in the chord you are playing over in the collab. smile.gif

hey Monte, I'm busy with Always with you, always with me again (Satch) and also the Lukather style lesson. If I can get the second fast block down, I'm ready to record!

You can do the fast legato part Kaz!!! Just whip out the Kaz box and get to work. There are basically 2 fast runs in that song. Everything else is just a matter of learning the phrasing. Let me know what you want to do next. smile.gif

Hmmm... I think the Satch thing will be kept as background piece.First I'd like to get the lukather down completely and then... I'm not sure :tongue.gif
Either: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/rhythm-gu...te-rock-lesson/
or https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/rockin_time_tune/ (cool tongue.gif)
I'm also doing the 80s Glam Rock lesson by David

And well... I actualy like most solo's which are a bit melodic tongue.gif I think one of the best lessons online is the https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...r-style-lesson/ lesson..... But as I'm not good in fingerpicking and not good in lvl 7 lessons I think this'll have to whait.

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...e-melodic-solo/ this one to wink.gif

EDIT: I'm also gonna do https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/rhythm-gu...lop-technique2/
