Heya.

I've just changed strings on my Squier Strat with fixed bridge and my bridge is floating like I were using a tremolo arm but I ain't! I tried tightening/loosening all the screws but nothing holds the damn bridge in place. And yes, I DID change string gauge.

Is this truss rod?

The springs in the back perhaps? Add a couple if you have any spares.

You have more tension on the strings than on the springs, try adding springs like MickeM said or tighten the screws connected to the plate that holds the springs (this should raise the tuning of the guitar), and retune the guitar. I don't see how it could be the bow in the neck, because I don't think that will keep the bridge raised, but if the neck does look bowed you should fix that by either tightening or loosening the truss rod to compensate for the bow. If none of these work I would take it to a pro.

You havent tuned the strings too high?

If you mean high in pitch, then no. I just stretched them to prevent going out of tune so much. But it does this even without stretching :/

That could be it too, one octave to high or something...


You said you tried all the screws. Did you actually add a couple of springs? (back of the guitar, open the hatchet)

I don't have any spare springs.

try to tighten the screws that hodl the metal plate in the back. If you don't manage, go to guitar shop and buy some springs. This will work.

You need to do a proper setup afterwards.

that looks about normal, hard to tell with that picture. But if you want your bridge flush and not floating tighten the claw in the back with a phillips screw driver you will need to take off the cover on the back to get access to it. If you can't tighten the claw screws enough to make the bridge flush then either add a couple more springs to the claw or just block the tremelo with a block of wood since you are not using the tremelo at all.

+1 on the springs. I had the same problem with my old strat. The springs lost tension with age so I had to replace them
