I purchased a new axe last night (of which I'll post pictures of tonight after work and leave you all in suspense until then) and I love it.

Though I didn't realize in the store that my pickups are loose. Is this normal or should I be getting this fixed?

They don't pop out or anything, but they do move from side to side and I am able to push down on either side and make it go down.

I think thats how its suppose to be..becuase my guitar is like that.and i juxt got it out......they cant be pushed in far or nothing..but they do move...so i just leave them alone.so i dont break them!!

They should be sitting in a cradle on springs or something similar as they can be adjusted to taste.

Don't worry

They are ususally stuck in a frame with two screws, beneath the frame is a spring that puch them into place (upwards).
These screws can adjust the height of the pu's. If you screw it too far down (i.e counter clockwise) the pu's will drop. But you'd notice if they are that loose.
If they can be moved 1 mm if you push em, that's normal.

As long as they dont move around noticeably while you play it should be fine, you can adjust them height wise and that might tighten up a bit, i got my pickups all the way down to where there practically flat against the body, and they still move a bit, so as long as its not drastic movement, its normal

They move more than I've read in this thread... but it seems to be okay, so I'll just leave it for now.

But if you purchased new, why not just swing by and have them check it out. Did you buy at a brick and mortar or online?

I mean if it's a £2000 crafted by the finest luthier in a wooden hut on a mountain in the middle of the sea and the pick ups are seemingly too springy or loose then I'd get it checked out...

... But if it is a Squire etc then I'd just assume they are all like that. As long as they don't rattle when they are shaken and work then all is well!
