Hey MickeM, I am not an amp expert by any stretch of the imagination but I have a VOX AD30VT and love it. (modeling type amp) I've never gigged with it, so can't say what it's like for that, but for home practice it's more than enough. I can pretty much achieve whatever sound I am looking for and it sounds good at any level of volume...I think anyways. It's very versitile and a rugged construction...I've knocked mine around a few times...unintentional of course...and have had no problems. I'm not sure if you've had any experience with Vox but figured I put it out there as a suggestion. I think they are worth looking at anyways. Thanks! I've heard good things about Vox, a modeling amp like that could be useful for recording the line out. A lot easier than miking the speakers up. I was looking at Vox, Laney and Peavey (tube models) when I finaly bought my Peavey Classic 30W amp. Vox was a sadly a bit too expensive. You know, my head is spinning from all this thinking about amps. One seconds I want a small bristish 15W amp for home use the next I want an expensive 100W ENGL SE ..... -------------------- My bands homepage

Ok well Ive played on Mesa-Boggies and Ive found there really great, I can get a nice bluesy tone out of it if thats what your looking for. I'm not looking for a bluesy tone really. Either a british amp or hi-gain brutal amp, like a Rectifier or Mark IV if you're talking Mesas Ive only played on one Peavey Amp and thats the Satriani Signature Head into a Peavey Cabinet which sounded Really nice. Thats probably my favorite amp out there right now. The JSX is real good sounding, brutal enough. I've also thought about the 6505 when suddenly Fender came out with the EVH 5150 III which I just have to check out. You could always go Line 6 for a great distortion sound and yada- yada- yada but then again there clean channel on those spider amps is really bad. Well, let's just say I don't like the Line6 amps at all. Havn't tried their top of the line amp though... can't recall it's name right now. But the amp I use now is really nice. A Fender ( Yes Fender ) Dsp 212 2x12 100 watt amp with Dsp Modeling Effects Really sounds great and has cool modeling tones ranging from Metal , to Jazz, British , Acoustic , Tweed, and even BlackFace. The distortion is actually modeled after a Marshall type distortion but then Again you cant go wrong with a Marshall - John You know what, I've never looked at Fender before since I've not been able to get them going where I want. Havn't tried your modeling amp and I'm a bit snowed in on tube amps but suresly as you say, todays modeling amps can probably sound right. Like the VOX above aswell. Maybe I should give myself a try to re-evaluate them And Fender became interesting with the EVH as mentioned. -------------------- My bands homepage

I'm going to agree with this...a JCM 800 would be rad. But since you're saying that you have $3500 you can spend I myself would get a Hiwatt custom 100 or if you want something custom built for you you can get a Bogner....but that'll cost a little money and I think it takes about a year and a half because of the wait. If you want to go cheap Sovtek makes the Mig 60 which is very similar to a marshall and hand wired. There's also the Sovtek Mig 100. Oh brother... I came here to say I had made up my mind. Instead of going for a smooth easy-to-tweak-baby I decided on a Laney VH100R + "no name"-Cabinet with Vintage 30 speakers + Hotplate and a Laney Lionheart 5W combo. Now Sovtek, that's an idea!!! back to the drawing table. I'm holding that thought of the two Laneys and if the MIG-60 (should be half the price to the VH100R but I don't know where to get one) proves worthy I may get that instead. They should be quite similar I guess, or, a bit hotter than Marshall and real tweakers both of them. -------------------- My bands homepage

Sovtek looks like a possible solution MickeM . Only problem I can see is that I've never seen one in the UK/Europe.
Maybe try through one of the tube replacement companies that import Sovtek tubes like Watford Valves or Tubedepot. Lots of luck. Vetta! I read that both guitarists from Rhapsody of fire use Line 6 Flextone amps on Marshall Cabinets and i really like their sound of distortion! It's amazing! But i didn't manage to find the Flextone head on Line 6 site! Here - what head is this? Looks like the flextoneII HD to me Pavel. Bad news is I think Line 6 discontinued ti when the Mark III was released. Think the only heads they have in production are the HD147and Spider. You might be able to get a MkII secondhand or maybe ex-stock from a shop though.

Well i saw a new Rhapsody DVD and there was a part where they were talking about recording process and stuff and i saw a Line 6 HD147 amp in the studio. I checked it sound samples on Line 6 site and it sounds great to me.
I know many people say Solid State amps are crap but damn - Rhapsody are playing live using Line 6 heads and they have amazing sound. I don't get it!! -------------------- "It isn't how many years you have been playing, it's how many hours." -- Prashant Aswani "PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!" -- Michael Angelo Batio Check out my video lessons and instructor board! |

Hear hear, I'm getting the Laney VH100R. Now I'd appreciate if any Brits around here could suggest where to get it from, a cheap and trusty place that takes web orders.
I'll be googling for one. Jolly good show chaps! -------------------- My bands homepage
