hey man, and thanks a lot for the feedback.

I do agree 100%. Atm this is kinda i little bit above my skill lvl in what i can play accurately as you can hear and as i get better playing I hopefully will be able to add more flavour to it or what you say.

Now to next topic, im handing my guitar away this friday to a luthier and im not sure how long he will have it, few days top im guessing.

Anyway before that i want to get as much practice in as possible and im practicing that beginner solo again atm, i never got past part 7 before.
I still have some problems with the triplets in part 5 and i just realised when reading the tabs again my problem with how part 3 was played was i dint slide but picked the first 2 notes from 14th to 16th fret so i didnt understand how to get the bend on the 17th fret right timed.
Few details im gonna work on right now tonight.
And im also looking into guitar pro as you suggested.

This month im gonna have to first of all get the guitar fixed so my higher strings dont make such noise and next month im going to finally get a better webcam so i can record videos properly.

Im also realising i need to and want to learn basic theory, scales and understanding better or at all rather but i dont even know where to start and its such a jungle and i end up getting tired and ignoring it.
But with some kind of plan it might help since ive always had problems with it.

Wall of text i know but now you know what im thinking at least.

Been out drinking beer, got nostalgic and got this melody in my head...
Nothing special just wanted to share it.
Couldnt manage to find the the proper chords atm so i played single notes on the chorus insteadXD

My timing issues are very clear as well.

I´m tired of darkness, cant wait for summer and sunshine.

Good night.

Hi Tommy! how are you?

Thanks for your update. Taking the guitar to the luthier is a very good decision. Maybe you can use this days without guitar to start getting into the music theory world. We have a lot of stuff, very well organized at this sub board: LINK

And also you should check my Improvisation Course: HERE

About the punky song, I have to say that it rocks! It could be a great punk hit in the style of bands like Bad Religion or even a promo song for a summer commercial. biggrin.gif

Hey Gab.

I got a mail today from GMC and it reminded me of that i should at least inform you of whats going on....

Shit happened and I ended up completely broke with over 20 days left until i see some income.
I had to cancel everything and dont even have money to food atm.
The reason is I had to take my dog to the vet and it got out of hands...
My dogs are my everything and they always comes first.

I felt embarresed and didnt say anything just quit the site but i still do play but i havent been able to afford the luthier and ofc not the camera yet and i felt i came with excuse after excuse to why i couldnt show progress which became a burden to me.

I did though download a cracked version of guitar pro and use it atm to learn some new songs, i plan on buying the full version once i can afford it and i plan on coming back to gmc.
I really liked to support and feedback but as i said i cant even afford the most basic stuff atm.

I hate to have to admit these things but i felt like an asshole just leaving as well.

Hope you understand

Hi Tommy, I'm sorry about this and I really understand. From my side, I send you some positive vibes to see things becoming better soon and invite you to continue working here together if you want. Maybe you can't see complete lessons but I can guide you with some feedback and and exercises to complete evolving as a musician and to have a good time at least here by now.

Just let me know and we can continue. smile.gif

About guitar pro, there is a similar software called Tux Guitar and it's free, check it out: http://tuxguitar.herac.com.ar/

Thanks I´ll check that link out right now.
I´m learning a cople at the gates songs atm, "slaughter of the soul" and "blinded by fear", i know the first few minutes of those.
Most parts are pretty easy and then some parts still too hard.

Also making some new for me more advanced, and most of all fun to play riffs,
and im trying to get some harmony in there as well.
Guitar pro helped me a lot to understand that:)

Listening a lot to Kill switch engage at the gates and as i lay dying atm. Never liked KSE before but now i find their guitars are fun to play.

I really appreciate the your help and really would like some new lessons, I´d prefer it to be some kind of modern metal stuff, thats what i really enjoy.i still play that solo from time to time, i still cant play the whole thing which is embarrassing but it taught me techniques that i now use very often when playing. So thats progress:)

I`m sending a PM later as well with additional info.

Thanks for the feedback, and yes i know exactly what you mean, i kind of stumble a bit cause i part mess up part have to think where to put my fingers still. also played the wrong note couple times.

Anyway, it was fun to finally be able to make a rec take, its light outside until around 4 now so got some daylight now so the cam i have works for now.
The 18th ill be able to resub and download the backingtracks for new lessons, only a week:)

Btw, i play in standard and drop d right now with earnie ball power slinkys 11-48 and really like the tension and feel, but they get so floppy when i tune to drop c which i play a lot to so when i finally hand it away to the luthier i want to use thicker gauge strings.

Thinking about 11-52 daddario or earnie ball beefy slinkys 12-54. DR drop down heavy 54-11 is also a contender. and to get it adjusted to d tuning, will i then be able to tune it to standard without huge problems or should i get thicker strings and get it adjusted to standard anyway for versatility?

Hi Tommy! Great to know that you enjoyed the REC program participation. You'll receive more feedback there from other instructors as well so you'll find it really helpful to keep on evolving as a guitarist.

About the strings, I'm currently using Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Botton for Standard, Drop D, Eb and drop C# without problems so something like this will really work:

This sounds good. These gauge is great for riffing but also for soloing and bending, it's a good hybrid.

What lessons are you currently practicing?

I´ve started practicing the as i lay dying again, and i was wrong, cant play it full speed yet, its the part where you skip one string e 3rd fret to 3rd on d and then the 5th that gets me, i want to play it with only downstrokes and simply cant do it fast enough, also working on the clearity of notes in the fast part before that, can play it but bit muddy atm. tried to play alternate picking on the downstroke part as well and at that speed i end up hitting a string a lot to, also it throws me off that it alternating between up and down stroke when you play the d string that way.
which do you recommend i focus on? practicing the downstroke speed more or the up down?

also been playing triplets til my hand hurt few times today, the way you showed yesterday. i play on 2 strings exactly the same then move up and down the neck.

and playing a riff of my own to a drumtrack i keep increasing the speed of that has string skipping and play it with only down strokes to practice stamina.

thats about it right now, looked at your pop punk lesson and skate punk as well, interesting chord changes in the pop punk one, need to practice the muted string better on that one. gonna start that on wednesday when i resub i think.

Oh, and downloaded the files from your 3 first video lessons and i really like the warm up exercise, doing that as well, the 1234 4321 thing

Hi Tommy, great stuff!

That's a lot of work to do so please be clever organizing your practice to make your diary practice effective and avoid losing focus. You can create blocks for each technique, and divide your practice time for each one.

About your question regarding the use of down picking for that part. I recommend you to work on it, because the use of down picking gives your playing a different intention and attitude, it makes it sound more accentuated and aggressive. That parts needs that feeling, and many riffs need it so it will be important to master it correctly.

yeah i know, i kind of have these periods of time that i get overexcited and overdo everything and end up getting bored.
gonna try and slow down a bit so i can keep it fun instead:P

ok, downpicking it is, yeah it sounds way more clear and tight always.
thing is going from one max speed to another way above that is gonna take months, now with tab programs its way more rewarding though since you can scale speed bit by bit slowly.

funny thing btw, my new neighbour came down and complained, not that im awake until 4 every night, playing guitar and watching movies not that i make noise at all, no no... ive been sick since last wednesday and have a bad cough, she asked me to move somewhere else cause she couldnt stand hear me coughing no more, lol

That's ok. Down picking really makes our hand get tired soon, so it need days and days of training. Just to keep you motivated I'd like to share a video with great moments by the god of downpicking! biggrin.gif

yeah james is sick.
tried to do some downpick tonight as well, but my arm is sore so i better rest, stamina is down the drain, ha ha.

tried to make an easy lick with sweep picking and i ended up with one that does a down sweep over 4 strings then alternate on high e few times then up 2 strings and repeat. realised after a while it was the exact intro of the nintendo 8bit game ducktales, moon themeXD

anyway, chilling doing sweeppicking tonigt, resting my muscles:P
