Dear all,

It gives me great pleasure to announce the following new GMC initiative.

We have a few members that have been around GMC for a while that have been making above average contributions. These people have encouraged, led by example and used their knowledge to help others progress in many different ways.

Kris has decided that we need to recognise these people and mark them out as Senior Members for two reasons - Firstly we want to show people that their contributions are valued. Secondly, we want to show others the kind of behavior that we want to foster on GMC. This site is an incredible place to hang out, and the members being recognised have played a huge part in that. We want to encourage that same attitude in others.

Senior members will get the following benefits:
  • Free membership
  • Custom title
  • Badge Attached Image
  • Free GMC Senior T-shirt
  • Access to the secret Seniors board
Senior Members are being picked out by Kris - when we discussed this we came up with a list of the type of qualities required so that others will know what they need to do to get Senior Member status. Since the GMC site is all about you the users, if anyone feels strongly that a particular member deserves this honour feel free to PM me, and I'll try and convince Kris that they are worthy, if I agree smile.gif

In order to be considered as a senior member, you will need at least the following:

1. Good Attitude

GMC is a great place to hang out, and we want to keep it that way. People who start arguments or are deliberatly objectionable need not apply. However, please note that reasoned disagreement is very much encouraged, and is a very positive thing when coupled with politeness. We will not consider anyone that has been in trouble with the moderation staff.

2. Has something important to add, or has shown leadership

Everyone has their own sweet spot or area of expertise. Using this knowledge to help others, or provide information to the community at large is a defining attribute of a senior member.

3. Be around for more than 3 months.

Some people seem to pop up, post for a while then disappear - I am guessing when their first subscription runs out. We want people that have staying power as Senior Members.

4. Posted a reasonable number of times.

Senior Members are people on the board that are familiar to all of us, and have posted sufficiently that we have a feel for their character, personality and interests. Five posts definately won't do it - maybe 50 will, depending on the content of those posts, maybe it will take more.

5. Good Communication skills.

We like to encourage clear, well written language, and good expression of ideas. This is not about how good your English is - a large number of members use English as a second language, and we absolutely will not take that into account. This is about not using slang, or abbreviations, it is about using paragraphs and punctuation.

Anyone who conducts themselves on GMC in this way stands a good chance of being made a Senior member eventually smile.gif

On the flip side, we are also looking for GMC Senior Members to exercise a little bit of additional responsibility in keeping GMC a great place to hang out. You will be the people that the other members look up to (in fact you already are, we are just formalising it!). We'll be asking GMC Senior members to be on the lookout for flame wars, bad language, copyright violations, and anything that doesn't fit with GMCs philosophy, and report it to the appropriate board moderator. Thankfully at GMC this sort of thing is extremely rare!

The first few Senior Members will be contacted in the coming days, and I'll announce their arrival on this thread.

Regards,

Andrew

Whew! Thank you everyone, I must say I'm very happy about this sudden turn of events. biggrin.gif

"Born of NWOBHM" - NWOBHM is the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, after I had finished with my dads Creedence and "Trio med Bumba" (Swedish folk) records as a kid the music I chose for my own way was right there when the brits started off with the NWOBHM. Birth to my taste in music and raised with it laugh.gif

And I'm still stuck with 80's heavy metal, which is of great joy among my friends who have no understanding about how one can get that snowed in... little do they know.

Celebrates with some newer tunes, attached below. Sorry for the short clip, just recorded it and only a short part.

I'll keep trying to throw amps, opinions and tips to left and right all over the place. You don't have to listen to it if you think it's a pain in the... ooops don't want to get moderated in this post rolleyes.gif but I hope I've been able to help someone with something.

Cheers, rock on! cool.gif

So question about this. Is there only going to be a selected few, and thats it. Or is it like an honor that everybody can get eventually?

Edit: And also, is there going to be a new one selected everyday, whenever it is nesscary, or is just going to be once a week?

There isn't a limit - anyone that qualifies can be a Senior member. Its based on merit not any kind of notion of how many there should be.

Exact timing and descicions are up to Kris - but I will say, that we won't make one a day just because. If there is noone to promote, we won't do it!

Congratulations MickeM - I think you have done an awesome job here at the forum! Not only have you contributed with lots of knowledge, but you have also contributed with mature arguments the few times there has been an conflict/argument!

A badge for senior members is on it's way!

Thanks alot for your presence MickeM! biggrin.gif

Well at least realising that one isn't mature is proof of maturity! biggrin.gif wink.gif

I don't know if it qualifes for a badge though...

Seriously, I must say that if you help people with the things you know - while learning yourself, so that your knowledge range keeps growing - you will be able to qualify too in the future smile.gif

Congrats to MikeM and for it was well deserved . biggrin.gif
I wish you the best of luck in your playing and I hope more from you is yet to come!

On another note.

These are I think some suggestions for Senior Members.

I think any Gmc Instructor by Default should be a senior member. That in itself reflects all the qualitys shown in the first post.

Tank should easily be another senior member. Hes been here since the start of Gmc and he helped the site thrive into what it is today. ( Member # 5 ! ) And I believe even the " Theory god Andrew " learned quite alot from him at one point.

Thats just what I think ! cool.gif

Great Idea !- John

Speaking of congratulations ....

I am pleased to announce that our very latest Senior Member is .....

The Uncreator

The Uncreator has been with us for a little over 3 months, in which time he has racked up over 900 posts on a variety of topics. He has a deep knowledge of Metal and has spent a lot of time introducing new bands. He also kicked off the review section initiative for Bands and Gear, and has contributed some great initial reviews that set the bar for others to follow. His ever changing Avatars and sig pics have kept us all entertained, and in addition, through all of this The Uncreator has displayed a great sense of humour.

or has he ?????

Yes he has smile.gif Hence forth, The Uncreators Costume Name will be "Fire Up The Blades"

Congratulations The Uncreator!

no i didn't get the matter of the beast mixed up with a matter of life and death and the number of the beast.. the matter of the beast is the name of the tour. smile.gif

I have heard the piano tribute and it is amazing. I mostly choose that sig because i love Eddie biggrin.gif hes my favorite band " mascot " of them all haha, i wanted to see the "Matter of the Beast" Tour just to see commander eddie in the tank hahah biggrin.gif

no i didn't get the matter of the beast mixed up with a matter of life and death and the number of the beast.. the matter of the beast is the name of the tour. smile.gif

I know what youre talking about, i got a shirt from that tour, And eddie in the tank is awesome! Eddie is awesome period. smile.gif

Time to announce the next GMC Senior Member...

KANEDA

Congratulations!

Kaneda has shown evidence of exceptional knowledge on many music/guitar related topics. Not only that - he is also working on giving us a highly advanced and costumised flash scale application...hats off for Kaneda!

You might also notice that we aren't completely consistent with the three month limit, the decision here was however very easy! Also - it is good illustration that we want to choose the GMC Senior Members on merit, not because someone has been around for a while!

Believe it or not, but the first thing Kaneda replied to my pm was - "no that's not fair, I haven't been around for three months yet!" wink.gif Seems like I convinced him though - his costume title of choise is "Other side of the coin" biggrin.gif

Thanks Kris and Andrew - and everyone else biggrin.gif And yeah, I did point out it "wasn't fair", as Kris said... laugh.gif

Another thing that made it not fair was that I didn't even know about this "award" until Kris messaged me about it...

So I'd better also say congrats to MickeM and The Uncreator - both of whom have like a googolplex more posts than me (did I miss anyone? In that case, congrats too any other "seniors" too smile.gif)

And yes, "Other side of the coin" is very much a cliché - except to me. It's a very specific Sandman (the Neil Gaiman comic) reference which has stuck with me for almost 15 years, very much fits me in countless ways, and was also the title of the first song, very personal and very outthere, that I wrote for our band. Might end up in the upload section when I end up actually being able to play it on guitar myself wink.gif

Someday I'll learn to keep my posts short too (and learn to do things right the first time, rather than constantly edit).

Hi all,

Thanks for the nomination for promotion to senior member. Sorry I've not been very visible here over the past couple of months. I'm working on a couple of music projects (when I'm not doing my 9-5), and hoping to get back into the music game on a more full time basis. Will keep you posted, and will be more prominent again towards the mid/end of summer smile.gif

Cheers again guys, everyone here rocks (but you knew that anyway).

The Choosen ones have been ... chosen.
All of you are very helpful and informative. Congratulations again to all of you.

Why isn't Tank wearing his badge? Didn't you accept it?

I almost missed that kaneda and tank was seniorized.

Could we have announcements and such threads locked? We can discuss them in a parallell thread.
That would make it easier to see when announcements really are updated.

Haha sorry googolplex. This is off-topic. I remeber one time in math class. FnS (Functions and Statisics) My teacher Mr. Lopez (VERY SMART GUY) Wrote out googolplex. Not the word, but the whole number. Hahaha. He ran out of white board. Sorry, once again Good job GMC seniors!!
