Here is Misha from Periphery showing us his crazy high gain peavey head and his sig overdrive pedal now that he has left pro tone and started his own thing with MXL. It doesn't say MXL on it, but it's built by MXL so he doesn't have the insane 3 month wait times for getting your pedal, also you might even see these in stores. I've never seen a pro tone pedal in a store, I'm sure someone has smile.gif Just not me.

Anyhoo! The secret sauce to tight tone and not having noise infect your tone? Using 2 gates. He uses a LOT of gain. He's using this pedal to drive a high gain amp in to insanity. Without the gate on the amp and the gate on the pedal, there would be a LOT of noise. I use this techique myself in my overloud patches by setting two gates at slightly different settings. With wads of gain, it sometimes takes 2 gates.

Owners of the Helix have been complaining in forums about the built in gate (for crazy high gain tones) and started using an external gate. Seems like a practical solution. Here is misha
