So I've been playing a few years now and been real serious about improving and learning as much as I can. I have never played in a band and only jamed with other people a couple times. Any suggestions on going about finding people? There is a musicians classified on Craig's list, do you think it would be a good idea to put up a post stating that I would like people who are looking for guitar to send me a list and and take my time to learn the songs before I jump in with people I have never met or played with?

How have you guys started your bands?

What sort of band would you like to play in, one that does covers or originals?

If covers go and watch a few cover bands and you'll get the idea of the songs every single cover band has on their set list, they really don't seem to vary that much in the same Town/City

Hey there man smile.gif I'll answer with a video for you this afternoon - I'm a bit lazy lately and I much prefer talking directly, but in the mean time, please take a look over this thread for some useful info on being in a band: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_fo...showtopic=45797

Music stores. pre-internet we would always run into other musicians at the local music shops, also the guys working there would know what local bands are looking for people or know other guys looking to get a band together.

Let me share my experience. When I was at school, I started the first bands with my friends but it was very difficult to do something really serious. We never got a good singer so we put there the less shy guy. We only rehearsed for the school's end of year event where we used to join the musical competition. I wanted to do something really serious, it was impossible but this give me my first real band experiences. So I mostly focused on becoming better on guitar. I always checked classifieds to see if there was a band searching for guitar players. I finally found a band called "Damnation" which was a project very named in my city that was a mix of Power Metal and Progressive Metal. They where older and experienced musicians so I was sure that I was going to learn a lot by them. I send them a cassette to show my playing (I recorded licks, solos, riffs and some songs) and they ask me for an audition. Playing with experienced guys was the best decision I could take.

In the UK we've got a classifieds website called JoinMyBand which has people advertising for band members. Maybe look up something similar in your area and find some musicians to hook up with?

That was a great video Cosmin. My band Analyzed Within is still forming. I am the main guy right now, with my cousin as my vocalist. I can add another guitarist in a little while (I have a friend who is interested when he gets the opportunity.) We haven't actively searched for more people, but probably will after this EP is out.

I found my vocalist because when I moved into the area I met him at a family reunion. (It has been years since we had met in person.) I just told him I had my project Analyzed Within and needed a vocalist - and there he volunteered to be my vocalist!

Brandon, I have had the opportunity of following your evolution as a player, musician, writer and more, since I arrived here and again, you are a good example of how things should be for each aspiring guitarist! Cheers to you!
