Thanks lads, beginning to understand. But after reading a good bit, I want to ask is modal playing the be all and end all of guitar playing. I mean I know its not but it just seems that way somehow. Other than learning modes what other things are there to unlock the fretboard. Like once you are comfortable with most techniques what else can you do to spice up your playing? I mean modes sound good and all but unless you writing a song with modes in mind, most songs (including my bands songs) have basic power chords/chords in the solo section to solo/improv over, and that is what I'm having trouble with. I mean I could improvise all night with the pentatonic boxes but I feel like I'm stuck there. I'll post a track of me improvising soon so you can see where I'm at with my playing. thanks Modes are just the beginning, there are many many other things to learn, music is endless pool I'm afraid, we'll have to dive forever. -------------------- Youtube
