I don't have any permanent favourites, mostly I find myself playing some licks I've recently discovered and which I like. For example right now I have this one:
b------13---h15----12~
G-14--------------------
It's played pretty slow to get the taste in. I press the whammy bar slightly before each note to get some color in, and I like to twist the last note with the whammy to give it a spacey sound. I use a slight classical distortion and lots of reverb to get a warm, dreamy feeling in it.
As you can see, I don't actually think so much about what to play as
how to play it. Everything depends on the touch and feeling, you can make the same lick sound totally different when played in a different way (naturally).
Oh yeah, about how I came up with this... I'm sure Pink Floyd's Shine on you crazy diamond had a huge influence on this lick (you know, the psychedelic, repeating licks in the beginning when the drums come along). Also I've been listening to Jeff Beck a lot lately, which was probably the source of inspiration for the whammy.
