Hi guys.

So i was watching a youtube video of a guy playing one of Steve Vai's song called "whispering a prayer", surely you guys are familiar with it.
I asked him for what guitar he was using cause i was really interested in sustain pickup and how that whole thing worked with the mode switch too.

So the guitar he told me was a washburn X - series with a fernandes sustainer, now i've been searching around in my country for guitars with fernandes sustainers but i walk right into a wall, there's nothing, so i'm wondering if this is something you have to put on yourself, is it called something else or is it just not a popular thing at all ?

Now what i idealer would absolutely love to have is buying another Ibanez Jem Jr and have that with that setup, but is that even possible ?

i'm really lost here, what options do i have if i want a guitar with that system without it being crazy expensive ?

I think it was last year Fender released an ed o'brian model which has a sustainer, huge neck though so not really something to play steve vai with.

Schecter should have some models, it should be the most easy to find and usually affordable. The pickup on the neck looks like this; https://www.schecterguitars.com/guitars/201...ed-reign-detail

You can buy a sustainer; http://www.fernandesguitars.com/sustainer/sustainer.html but thing is I'm not sure if you would need any routing/carving to the guitar body.

You can order a SUSTANIAC system (which is what is used in the sustainiac based schecters and such) and install it in any guitar you like smile.gif They come in single coil size and humbucker size. You can buy one directly from sustaniac and then install it yourself or have it put in. So yeah, you can put one in your Ibby!! smile.gif Here is the link to order one. It's about $230. It's a pickup that replaces your bridge pickup and then some electronics that go in the control cavity of your guitar. It's a bit of a involved install so folks often have it done by a pro. Of course, some folks think it's a cake walk install smile.gif

here is a picture of a sustainiac pickup system being installed in a Jem Jr.Attached Image

The easy option is to just buy a guitar with one built in which is easy enough if you don't mind buying a Schecter. You can probably find a used model with the sustainiac system built in. Here is a list of Schecter guitars that come with one built in.

There will need to be cavities routed for the Battery and control PCB/mini-toggle switches!

Egad!! Hopefully with the new "mini boards" it will all just fit in the tone/volume cavity of a standard RG style Ibanez.

I have installed one into an RG Cavity, took a bit of thinking about but I did get it done!! Yeah, with all the miniaturisation of boards etc these sorts of things should become way easier!!

Thanks for the answers smile.gif

Sounds like buying a Schecter would be the way to go, then maybe sometime in the future see if i can get a guitar shop to add it onto a Jem Jr, i just love the looks of that guitar and it's quite cheap aswell.

But i will have my eyes out for a Schecter and see if i can't find one here for now.
