What Kind Of Effects Pedal Should I Get?

I know there are probably billions of pedals out there that would be good for me, but i really dont know much about them, and would like some guidance...

all i have right now is a simple $20 distortion pedal.

I've looked through some of the pedals in some catalogs and some have as many as 50 different effects blink.gif

anyway what would recomend for me if it is going to be my first effects pedal?
