to play slow and in sync , your hand has to sway larger just to keep time properly otherwise you will have to pick and pause pick and pause or a larger in time motion, and it is impossible for me to play in sync with minimal movements slower , and it took me time to realize there is a speed that all off a sudden minimalizes your picking hand movement , that's why picking a single note lets you focus on your picking hand to see at what speed that occurs. This is the speed you need to find and jump up to to practice tremolo picking. The speed just below this is the most difficult speed that's why finding this speed in necessary, cuase working up through this speed is impossible, so you need to jump over it.
For me it is right around 90 BPM and the jump occurs when I go from playing 4 notes per beat ( larger motion ) to 6 notes per beat and it minimizes without me even thinking about minimalizing movement when I am focused on playing the notes in time.
You can almost see it happen to him when he jumped to 190
But then yo will need to play slow to clean it up.. so yes and no
