Hi
Last month we did really good with some neoclassical backing and you learned some new scales. In this one I hope you won't find anything unfamiliar. This is about pentatonics and a couple of different common modes. Actually, Monte asked for Satriani type of backing and I promissed I would do it. The chord progression is very simple: A5 - A pentatonic of your choice E5 - E minor pentatonic these 2 chords are repeated 4 times (16 bars) then you have C5 (2 bars) - Lydian D5 (2 bars) - Mixolydian And again: A5 - A pentatonic of your choice E5 - E minor pentatonic these 2 chords are repeated 2 times (8 bars) Tempo is 180. Your tonal key center is E (minor) and this E5 chord is your resolution in the melody. You can think of it as G major as that's the paralel scale/chord to the E minor. Therefore your C chord will be Lydian and D will be Mixolydian. Please use these 2 chords for these modes, do not stay in pentatonic here. I said that A can be pentatonic of your choice. If you start with A minor pentatonic then go on with that choice on every A5 chord. You can chose to do A dominant pentatonic (1, 2, 3, 5, b7) - something like mixolydian. If you go for this option then please keep it until the end whenever you have that A5. In this case your A5 will sound more (major). You can also use some blues b5 passing notes if you find it interesting. Notice that I resolve on E major riff when I land on the E5 but you can still play E minor pentatonic and it will work. That way you'll sound more in Satriani style I called this collaboration "Satriani style" because the backing reminds of his old known fast grooves like Surfing With The Alien or Crushing Day. But you don't need to play in Satriani style. Play whatever you want just make some nice melody and involve some cool rock licks. There is plenty of space for playing pretty much anything from tapping, picking... you can even play with your boots like Ritchie Blackmore hahaha, but please keep some logical structure so your solo has some compositional quality. The deadline is April 26th (Sunday) - 2 weeks and 2 days. I will be away from 12th until 26th so I won't be able to reply everyday. You can still ask anything you want and I'll do my best to find internet at least every 3rd day. I hope I'll receive some great takes this month See you. ---------------------------------- 1. lcsdds 2. Dexxter 3. kaznie_NL 4. Caelumamittendum 5. Tjchep 6. Rated Htr 7. UncleSkillet 8. enforcer 9. Well here are my tracks.
This is more of a constructive improv. Played with the backing a handful of time and then hit record. I know I probably resolved on the root to much. If the collab is extended I will try to work with the idea more. Had fun with the backing track! Thanks for the collab! You need a clear beginning, a middle, and an end. Look at musical phrases like sentences, and make sure you break them up using punctuation—or space. You pause naturally when conversing, right? If you don't, you'll bore the listener. The same thing will happen with your audience if your solo is one dimensional. You'll wear them out and lose their attention." —Tom Principato

Hi guys
I have just arrived from 2 weeks holiday. Crazy time I had there I have just flew through your posts quickly and seen some comments and Monte's video (cool take). I need to sit down and spend some more time reading all your posts. I have seen more people wanted to join but I didn't have internet to put them on the list. I am sorry I couldn't follow this topic in the last 2 weeks but whoever wants to record something please post it and I'll add the names later in the list of participants. You can send takes tomorrow as well as I will not start mixing today. Cheers -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile

I tried to record it, but I have so much problems with timing now. Might be because I´m tired. Is it ok if I do it tomorrow?

Here´s my take. There are a lot of timing problems which I have to correct. But not now, I´m k.o. and this was the best take I could do. Some parts are improvised.

Can I have one with the backing as well? I need it to align your take properly. Hi Emir, welcome back! I uploaded a better set of tracks for you to mix with. Guitar one is mono for sure because I double checked. Also, the rendering I used while converting to mp3 in the first set made things sound a little brite. I realized the signal was really week to! Hope these will make your mixing effort easier. Of course feel free to use whichever ones you want. Cheers I am now looking through your posts and collecting takes. Are you saying that I should take the 2nd one or you have removed that and uploaded the new one? -------------------- Check out my Instructor profile
