Fantastic!

I like this a lot - the reason being your wide, "non shreddy", right hand motion. This does wonders to tone - and it's a in a whole different league that your standard metal:ish kind of alternate picking, in terms of tone.

The downside of course, is that you won't reach the same extreme tempos with this technique. At best you will play like Eric Johnson, which in my opinion is way more than enough 😍(I have always had his picking technique as a goal).

It is important to emphasise this is not where Darius is going - you can see he has a wide motion but it is much more controlled. His motion is a perfect compromise between tone and a technique that will allow top speeds.

Where you want to take your picking is entirely a matter of personal preference though.

Also you vibrato needs more depth and love, but I won't take it into account for this level 3 picking workout.

Hey there!

First of all - impressive amount of confidence right from the start. I like your attitude. Picking is consistent and efficient. You're are not afraid to hit the string, to get "that" tone.

There are very minor mistakes to point:

1. Timing - your timing is very consistent and solid most of the time. At few moments (mainly at the beginning) I had an impression your slightly in front of the beat. In generall I think you have a tendency to be rather in front but you are even with yourself. Something tells me that if you would move your guitar track 10ms earlier, you would be perfectly in time with the backing track. This is so minor that please notice were speaking of completely pro level comparisons.

2. You fell into the trap and unfortunately missed the point of final part, which is reversed in picking (starts with upstroke and keep it reverd till the end).


Very good take ,great tone match, great picking strength and timing, great notes separation and control over unwanted strings. Only thing that keeps me from giving 10 is the final part which was a separate task. OVerall great work anyway

Great job here! I think that this is a very good take and that there is only room for some small improvements here.

I agree with Kris comments about right hand movement. This one works for this speed and lesson but you could make it a bit more effective. This small details could help to fix the timing issue that Darius marked. Trying to keep your right hand fingers closer to the fretboard too.

The other two elements that are also connected to the picking technique are tone and dynamics. If you listen Darius approach to these elements and compare it with your take you'll notice that you can get more from the lesson and from his playing. Notice how the accentuates the patterns differently and how he manages tone with his picking technique. This can be tricky to emulate, it's a long term target but it's important to start listening and thinking on it.
