Hi people,
I wanted to ask somebody about a combination of an IBANEZ JEM-5-WH, a MARSHALL MG-100HDFX (100 Watt) and a BOSS DS-1,Distortion. However, noone of my friends plays guitar, so I ask you, GMC-members. biggrin.gif
I don´t know much about gear, yet, so I have confidencein you guys.
This is the gear I want to buy:

What do you think about? Is the Jem555WH a good guitar? Are the prices ok?

I would be very glad in case someone answers. biggrin.gif

Thank you,
Tolek

PS: Excuse my bad English. biggrin.gif

I used to play the MG100 when we were between rehearsal-places(what's the eng. word for it) and we rented an all equipped room and in my opinion it's not good at all, it sounded terrible. And to be honest, it made rehearsing a lot less fun.

And I mean, if you're getting that guitar, which for sure is great, you should probably invest in an amp to match.

Thank you for your quick answer, MickeM. Which amp would you recommend? I am sure that Marshall would be a good choice. But which model? A monster amp like 1959SLP, a standard amp like DSL 401, Combo, 40 Watt or simply a AVT-150HX?

Thank you for your quick answer, MickeM. Which amp would you recommend?

I have got this head - H&K - with this cabinet - Fame - it's got Vintage 30's.

The H&K amp is also available as a 50W or 100W combo. You know, we (tha band) played a heavy tune last monday (Dream Theater - These Walls) and I cut the mids for the heavy parts and my mates just dropped their chins... not because of my playing but the tone was soooo heavy. And I agree of course :-)
The mastervolume was only up to between 1 and 2 and still loud enough for rehearsing.

I'm getting more and more fond of this Switchblade amp the more I use it. But as you see, it's not for bedroom playing.

EDIT: I saw you edited your post while I was writing. I don't know about Marshall... The DSL maybe. I used to be into Marshall myself but lately I don't know... I'd choose my H&K again or en ENGL Powerball for loud playing.

And about the H&K Switchblade , if your preferences are Marshall I havn't been able to get the real Marshall brown sound out of the H&K. But for me it's good enough... I havn't pushed the valves either for that matter so I don't know if that would get me closer.

I forgot to say how and where I would like to play. I don´t play in a band yet, so I don´t have to play loudly. However, a cheap amp with bad sound wouldn´t satisfy me - I sometimes play for some friends and I want a good sound. biggrin.gif Later, after having founded a band, I would buy some better gear which is loud and of higher quality.

A few minutes ago, I found this amp: Marshall MG-100DFX. Has somebody used it already? What is it like?

Edit: And this one: Marshall AVT-150HX ?

Hey, i havent played the JEM555, but ive heard terrible things about it, the bridge is very poor, and ive used one before (its an Edge III). The only good thing about the guitar are the pups. If i were you, i'd get an ibanez prestige, and put some evos in it, and it will be much better, not to mention you'll get an Edge Pro, which some consider better then an OFR.

So, thats just me suggestion

Hey, Rvddps! Thank you, too, for your answer. Now, I have another problem concerning my vocabulary. :S What is are the pups, the evos and I don´t know what the Edge III (a humbucker probably?) and an OFR. It was great if you, or someone else, explain it. biggrin.gif

I guess the AVT X150 is rather good, the AVX got a preamp valve which is positive
Don't know if you're looking for the combo or a head in specific since you linked to one.
Perhaps this one, AVT50X? It will work for both bedroom playing and if you're in a band. If I remember right there are models for (in the AVX series i.e.) 50W, 100W and a 2x50W (or was it 2x75W?)

pups = pickups
Evos = DiMarzio Evolution pups
Edge III = An Ibanes Floyd Rose licenced bridge
OFR = Original Floyd Rose (I assume)

EDIT: Hmmm... I think I maybe could use the AVT100 myself. Good price, preamp valve, good enough. :-)

What is the difference in sound when your amp has got one or 2 channels? What is better?

Has someone experience with a Marshall AVT-50X?

Good night, shredders. biggrin.gif
