I can't figure out what these bands use, I always have the feeling it's harmonic minor, but I can't tell for sure, can somebody give me a hand on these bands' theory?

Hey Filipe

I just checked out both links

In first link in the intro they use Phrygian mode (major scale 3rd scale degree) and during rest of the song its pretty much Harmonic minor!

Second link - riff is Natural minor in intro riff, after that it goes to Harmonic minor and switches back to Natural minor.

Very cool links , thanks for sharing !

So I was right, it's harmonic minor smile.gif

Maybe it's because I still don't know how to use chord progressions for it that I can't make up anything simmilar... laugh.gif

Thanks

Yes you where , good ears you got biggrin.gif

I will give you very typical example of natural vs harmonic minor

Natural minor Amin Fmaj Gmaj
Harmonic minor Amin Fmaj E7 (or G#dim7 or E/G# in the bass)

Hope this helps smile.gif

Hay!
Yeah great links. Pedja nailed that one;)
Generally metal bands use different minor scales rather than major.

Mostly harmonic minor. It is little bit confusing the way he uses it, considering harmony.
