I'd love to see a lesson on writing metal riffs.

How do you go about doing it?

Choosing a key, Chord progressions, Using maj/min/diminished for flavor, etc.....

I was thinking about doing a lesson like this, I made a lesson that goes a little into songwriting for metal. Basically it explains how to differentiate a Chorus from a verse, there aren't any rules here but some guidelines are useful.

I will look more into this to create a useful lesson, I was thinking something around the lines of creating a simple song from scratch, and make it a whole song lesson.

Specifically I find myself trying to write EPIC METAL MONSTROSITIES with a seriously lacking bag of tricks.

Open string chugging
powerchords on the E string.
powerchords on the A string.

That just aint gonna cut it!!!!

I would say, the trick is to start simple, I have in the past written songs in which I threw everything in there, listened back and figured it was too much.

My approach now is simpler, come up with a couple of riffs, and make a simple song, then experiment adding tempo changes, key changes if I think the song will benefit from it.

This is the lesson I made on making metal riffs:

What I am planning for the next lesson of songwriting, is simpler, no meter changes, just explain little aspects of songwriting that might serve as guidelines
