If your looking to sell your guitar back to a store don't expect too much, used guitars sell for very little because buyers usually don't expect to be getting alot. doesn't usually matter how much you paid or how long you;ve had it, its how fast it will sell used and for how much. I now own a guitar shop and am interested in selling good quality used guitars so email me at [email protected] and i might take it off your hands biggrin.gif ill try and give you more than more guitar shops would, but again, it all depends how much i think i can sell it for, and how fast i think i can sell it.

i assume you are thinking of lower end guitars. nice gibson and fender go for quite a bit on ebay. last time i looked lp standards in good condition were $1,500 and up. You can get a new one for not much more than that if you know what you are doing.

I was somewhat assuming it was a lower end guitar being sold back... i personality wouldn't sell a gibson or anything high end back.. again for the same reason, anyone with the money to buy a gibson buys a new gibson, because even a used gibson will be sold by the shop for alot, and for this same reason a shop wont buy a high end guitar for alot even if it can sell for alot, i would pay maybe 1500 for a 4000$ guitar new.. but i woudn't go higher than that, the only reason shops buy used guitars is so they can sell them for a profit quickly.

when i said good, i really meant excellent. i have 7 guitars, and all are in as mint as you get. see no reason to scratch a guitar, and there are a lot of others that are the same, can have it for years, not a mark of any significance. all you have to do is be careful, not take any chances, do the right things. i also would probably not go $1,500, unless i had a good reason, such as i was confident it was in super shape, the seller had a good track record, and wrote me that i had a money back guarantee that it was perfect, and i liked the flame a lot. i really pretty flame is worth something to me.

edit: again, when i say good record, i mean near perfect. preferable 100% and at least a 100 deals. you can judge people pretty well on ebay, if you use your head, and be willing to walk if you see even the slightest red flag of concern. some dealers sell there, they also have shops. you just have to use your head, contact them, see how they respond, and be ready to walk if anything does not look right.

point was, you can sell them at little loss. but a lot of that depends on who are. people can really tell if you are honest. those that can't are often ebay buyers from hell, you don't want to deal with them.

the reason i picked up guitar again last september (played some as a kid, was terrible, but knew the basics) was that i sold one of my night visions scopes. nobody should have paid more than $1,300 for it. but it went for over $1,700. i felt bad, but the reason was, people can really tell if you are honest. I ended up sending the guy $300 back after the deal. $1,400 was too much, I could not take advantage of him and take $1,700. would make a car salesman. anyway, I thought, spend it on a treat, so bought a guitar. then I got 6 more. but totally satisfied with what I have. the siren song of the jem cult falls on deaf ears with me, i like what I have, want nothing else.

anyway, the fact is that I am the kind of guy who would send you back money if you made a fool of yourself. and it shows. if i ever sale a guitar, i will get a decent price.

Ahh ebay is a different story, many used guitars get sold for over 1500 on ebay just because the buyers are going to use the guitar smile.gif, i was strickly seeing it from the perspective of a guitar shop buying the guitar from someone used, As a player i would pay more than 1500 for a mint condition high end guitar, but as a guitar shop owner, i wouldn't pay that unless i was going to be able to resell it for 1000 more at least.

see above for further comments. also, the thing about warranty, is well, you have to wait. Gibson backs their product, but it is standard to have to wait for a good luthier. I am about to get my martin back (kept it from when I was a kid), but it has now been 8 months waiting....after that long an acoustic needs work, Martin is paying for half of it, but warranty work, you typically have to wait for it. if you can be sure that the guitar you buy is in great shape, great neck, no twists, etc. nothing wrong with a used guitar.

oh, the reason Martin is not paying for everything is worth thinking about. even with lifetime warranty, it only covers frets for one year. and for any neck issue, they probably have to take out the frets. in my case i had some excessive neck bow, and this was from before the time martin put in truss rods. the frets were fine, but only way to fix that properly is plane the neck, so I have to pay $300 for the frets, martin won't pay for frets for any reason. nor will gibson, not after one year. They also require you to ship it to them if they go over $500. There is $650 more work besides dealing with the frets, so i pay another $150 besides. Was not going to ship it to them, risk shipping damage, and have who know who fix it (rather than the local luthier who I have confidence in). So bottom line, warranty is not all it is cut out to be. Still, for $450 i am getting an old martin d-35 in perfect condition back, worth doing. it really was not very playable, after that many years, they just need some work done to get them right.

I sold the guitar thats by my user name on Ebay a month go,wish i didnt have too.It was a Jackson DK2 Pile of Skulls and the paint job was amazing.I made out very well though.I sold it for $650.00 a year and a half after i bought it and i payed $800.00 for it then.I took very good care of it though no dents dings or scrathes and i had all original paper work. The cheaper model guitars dont hold value well at all. It's worth the extra money to buy a higher end model guitar and it holds resale value much better.
