My Practice Regime

Anyways, it's holiday time for me, and since I have nothing else planned, I'm gonna spend more time practicing. Here, I have a 7 hour practice reigime that I'm gonna try and stick to and I was wondering what you make of it... Warm up - 5 minutes Picking technique - 40 mins (20 mins on alternate picking and 20 mins on sweep, economy picking) Scales - 40 mins Legato technique - 40 mins Rhythm playing and learning new chords - 1 hour Soloing and jamming - 1 hour Transcribing and Ear Training - 30 mins Style Analysing - 30 mins Learning new songs - 1 hour EDIT: Theory has been replaced with ear training, transcribing and style study. I would just say that you don't need to stick to these numbers strictly. If you think that some of these techniques goes well then just continue and leave something else for the next day. Never break a good continuity. You can learn theory when you go to bed. I used to read books about it like reading a newspapers. After when I take guitar I try to use what I learned. It is more than enough trust me if you do it for a month you will notice a lot of improvement in your improvising and composition skills. Good luck with your practice plan and stick with it! Your plan can lead to a great progress. I'm not going to try and stick to these numbers...they're more like a guideline to the minimum amount of time I should practice this area of study. If I feel that these techniques are working for me, then by all means I will continue. The first is in the morning before I go to work and it is sometimes the only time I can practice (ovehours etc.). So here it is Morning: -Scales (40- 60 min): -Chose scale -Incorporate alternate picking, legato, optional-tapping scales (use of metronome) -Try to learn new lick for the particular scale or repeat the old for the scale that day Evening : - warm-up (5 min) - tech (25 min) : -sweep picking- - practice new song for this week or work on own songs (40 min) - practice melodies-solos/segment- (40 min) - transcribing by ear- (20 min) Weekend: repetition of the week + new assignments. I think if you spend only 2 hours a day you can see a huge progress in a year, not to mention more hours and longer overall period. Every minute that you can spend for practicing will be well worth.
