If I got you right you add the distortion and Wah pedal to the fx loop. These should go to the amp's input.
From an economical point of view it's hard to beat the multi effects, if I were you I'd go for something like the Boss ME50 or Line6 M9 or M13. That instead of GT10 or X3 to avoid the amp modeling stuff since you won't need it anyway from what I understand. That way you keep it more simple. -------------------- My bands homepage

In case you're still looking at the X3 live, there does exist (as in all line-6 signal chains) the ability to simply not include any amp or cabinet modeling. You still get all the effects and settings, across two signal chains, and the expression ability to sweep knobs, wah, or even the mix between the two chains.
That's not to say the other devices aren't also very cool, just making sure we're clear that you CAN drop those XT and X3 live devices on the FX loop properly. -------------------- ::jafomatic

I've got separate stomp boxes in front of my tube amp and they sound really good.
BUT I recently purchased a BOSS ME-70 and I love it too I got the ME-70 because I move alot in the weekends and needed some good portable stuff. Truth is it sounds just great in front of the tube amp too (I tried it recently). Go figure! (I play at low levels in my apartment though, maybe at high volumes it doesn't sound so good... who knows) This post has been edited by Fran: Jan 26 2010, 11:16 PM -------------------- Guitars:

... I ended up on an Eventide Eclipse,... Nice to see someone else here with an Eclipse . One other thing I like about the Eclipse is the flexibility of the digital I/O - great for studio work . -------------------- Get your music professionally mastered by anl AES registered Mastering Engineer. I would choose stomps if were in that situation, but ME boxes can be cool as well, specially newer ones. You should definitely get delay first, that is a must effect. DD20 is a good pedal, I had it and made a review, it is quite nice, and you will use the loop function a lot on it, it's quite practical.

I didnt like the line 6 stuff much although the M9 is meant to be much improved. +1 on Nova, the delay/reverbs are top-notch and sounds very good. Otherwise I wouldn't go for multi-effects at all, rather buy the boxes one by one, since most of them I owned colours the amps sound too much and doesn't sound as good as the pedals they try to emulate anyway.... I haven't tried Eclipse or Axe-Fx though.... //Staffay -------------------- Guitars: Ibanez AM-200, Ibanez GB-10, Fender Stratocaster Classic Player, Warmouth Custom Built, Suhr Classic Strat, Gibson Les Paul Standard 2003, Ibanez steel-string Amps: Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Marshall JMP 2103, AER 60 Effects: BOSS DD-20, Danelectro Trans.
