Cab-emulating DIbox indeed does the job, but you still have to play loud in order to get a proper signal. If you have the money, I suggest you invest into attenuator, something like Koch Load Box II, or Ultimate Attenuator. Koch is specially good for recording. It may be expensive, but if you ask me, it's a valuable piece of hardware for the ultimate tone.
