Well yesterday, I saw the REC program had started, and wanted to record some videos. I took out my trusty camcorder, plugged it in via firewire to my computer, but my computer does not detect it. I have tried everything I can think of to get it to be detected but nothing seems to work. Any advice you would have would be very much appreciated, as I'm getting quite frustrated.

Cheers smile.gif

Matt

P.S. It is a Canon MD235, and it did used to be detected.

Matt try to plug it into different firewire or usb port. You can also look for your camcorder driver online and install it again.
Let me know if that helps !

I have tried it in different ports, but I haven't tried the reinstalling the driver yet. Thanks smile.gif

In case the driver re-install does not work....

Let us know what version of Windows you are on.

Do you have other firewire devices that work when plugged in?

Have you tried plugging the camera in and then turning it on?

And, just like the last one, only different: Have you plugged in with the camera on?

Is the camera functioning correctly other than your pc does not detect it?

Perhaps it is the cable that is fault? Try another cable, or another device to locate the problem.

Well can't find the driver so i'll answer these questions.

I'm on Windows Vista

I have no other firewire devices.

Yes, I have tried plugging the camera in then turning it on.

Yes, I have plugged in with the camera on.

And Ivan, the cpmputer detects the firewire, just not the camera, do you think teh firewire could stillb the trouble?

Try to send them email and ask for driver. Either that or call up customer service using number on website.

Most firewire cameras don't need driver. My one was installed automaticaly. Ivan suggested you check the cable. Check in your system as well that your firewire port is active.

What do you mean firewire is detected? Does this mean you can see the interface listed in hardware device manager? This is normal, and I don't think the firewire circuit on motherboard is faulty. Check the cable.

I bought a brand new cable today and it still doesn't work. I'm going to try taking out and putting in the firewire card.
